Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro has just offered more insight to the upcoming villains-themed project, coming soon to Walt Disney World.

Josh D’Amaro hosted the “A Celebration of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow” at Destination 23 this morning, giving fans a look at what’s coming to life at the Disney Parks, Resorts and Beyond.

At D23 in September 2022, Chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, Josh D’Amaro shared concept art for a potential villains-themed land, which Imagineers want to bring to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

At the time, Disney Imagineers did not confirm what would be included in a new villains land expansion, though they did mention the possibility of having it reside in Magic Kingdom behind the Big Thunder Mountain attraction, calling the entire concept the “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” project.

Now, however, fans have just learned more details surrounding the project as Josh D'Amaro shared exciting information about the project at Destination D23.

Although D'Amaro did not mention villains specifically, he did mention many new attractions and new shows coming to the “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain” project, promising they will be going into "overdrive".

Other Projects Announced For Disney

At the D23 event, Josh D’Amaro showed the new animatronics coming to the ride. In the photos shared, we can see Imagineers working on the Louis animatronic, which will be part of the new attraction at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort.

Disney also announced that a new Pirates of the Caribbean lounge will be opening at Magic Kingdom, expanding the story of the iconic attraction of the same name.

Disney Imagineers are working on putting the final touches on Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana which will open at EPCOT in Disney World later this year. The company has referred to Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana as a “lush exploration trail” which will allow Guests to “play with magical, living water.”

Disney World also announced new character meet and greets coming to the Parks, including Moana, Mirabel from “Encanto”, and Figment, from EPCOT’s iconic attraction, Journey Into Imagination with Figment, all debuting sometime this year.

Over at Hong Kong Disneyland, Arendelle: World of Frozen is set to open up its gates later this year, allowing Guests to see fan-favorite characters from the film and ride “Frozen”-themed attractions, including Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs roller coaster — a ride that will take Guests on a journey through Arendelle after they pay a visit to Oaken’s famous store.

“The entire themed land is a recreation of the kingdom of Arendelle drawing upon the natural landscape of Lantau Mountain behind Hong Kong Disneyland as a backdrop,” Disney shared of the new land, which will open on November 20. “In creating World of Frozen, we have the vision of making this land a living and authentic Arendelle where guests can step into the cinematic scenes from the ‘Frozen’ movies. We recreated iconic landmarks of Arendelle that will instantly resonate with the fans of ‘Frozen’ and all guests alike."
