Doja Cat Meows In Prosthetics To The Met Gala As Karl Lagerfeld's Cat

Trust Doja Cat to truly understand the assignment. The theme of the 2023 Met Gala honored Karl Lagerfeld and his contribution to fashion. Still, the person who decided to take the guidelines to heart was Doja Cat, who showed up as Lagerfeld's cat, Choupette using next-level prosthetics.

Of course, she wasn't the only celebrity to have this catty idea, and we must also give Jared Leto and Lil Nas X an honorary mention.

Doja Cat made sure her first-ever Met Gala became an instant pop culture moment after embracing the theme that honored Karl Lagerfeld in the most elemental way possible. Instead of dressing up in one of Lagerfeld's iconic designs, she chose to walk the Met Gala's steps as his cat, Choupette.

As per Vogue, Brett Alan Nelson, Doja Cat's creative director and stylist, felt no other celebrity could channel Karl's cat as well as she could. The two worked with Oscar de La Renta's co-creative director Fernando Garcia on the dress, a hand-beaded creation with a face-fitting hood replete with a pair of cat ears to complete the look.

The prosthetics were Doja Cat's idea. The rapper and her stylist did not want the look to be a "costume" and kept it as authentic as possible, adding prosthetics by artist Malina Stearns for an elegant feline look.

The makeup remained minimal, with very feline eyes, and they matched Doja Cat's lip shade to the tip of her prosthetic nose for a cutesy look.

This is hardly the first time Doja Cat has shown up in high fashion. She appeared at the Paris Fashion Week covered in 30,000 hand-glued Swarovski crystals for Schiaparelli and, all the while, also had a stomach bug.

But fashion is big for Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini. Regarding style, she feels she's "down to sacrifice my comfort" and will "do anything for that fantasy that I have in my head." The rapper and singer, who seemed to have exited Twitter on April 29, also said, "I think in my personal life, I enjoy finding the line between being comfortable and doing something exciting with whatever I'm wearing. And it's been sort of like a game for me."

Another notable invitee was Lagerfeld's famously pampered pet, his cat, Choupette, who did not attend but did manage to pen a thank you note, given that it has its own Instagram account.

"Wrote" the feline, "Many people invited me to walk the red carpet of the Met Gala 2023 in tribute to Daddy, but we preferred to stay cozy and at home. We pay tribute to my Daddy every day since his parting, and we are very moved to see one more day dedicated to him."
