What's even more amazing is that fans said he did so with the enthusiasm of a teenager. Plus, the singer played images of Johnny Depp in the background, as a clear sign of support for the embattled star.
Proving that he was full of surprises, McCartney also got some big names to perform with him, one coming to him from the land of imagination. Read on to find out more.
Paul McCartney Oldest Solo Musician To Headline Glastonbury
On Saturday, June 2, 80-year-old Sir Paul McCartney rocked Glastonbury 2022, making him the oldest ever solo musician to headline the much-lauded music festival. This was also his second time performing at the festival, his earlier appearance being in 2004.
Despite being 80, McCartney gave a spry performance that had fans, and later social media fanning over his enthusiasm. The two-hour-long performance saw McCartney perform popular numbers, and he even brought in some special guests to light the stage on fire.
Fans loved his enthusiasm and Twitter was soon flooded with appreciative comments.

He’s 80.
He’s played over 2 and a half hours.

We’re lucky he’s touched our lives. He’s SIR Paul McCartney.

Even Piers Morgan has great things to say:

Performed With Bruce Springsteen, Dave Grohl, And John Lennon
Another cool bit of the performance came from the fact that Paul McCartney got John Lennon to perform with him, virtually of course.
He sang a duet with the late Beatles member by isolating his solo vocals, from "I've Got A Feeling". McCartney introduced the track, saying, “I’ve got a special little thing here. One day, Peter Jackson rings me up and says he can take John’s vocals and isolate them so that you can play live with Kohn on tour. He said, do you fancy that? That’s so special for me man. I know it’s virtual but come on – it’s John. We’re back together.”
He also performed hits like "I Saw Her Standing There", "Band on the Run", "Glory Days", and "I Wanna Be Your Man", made all the more special when he brought Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and rock veteran Bruce Springsteen to delight the audience at Glastonbury.
How do you top a guest appearance from Dave Grohl and a visit from Bruce Springsteen? I know how, by being a f***ing Beatle and playing live with the vocals of John Lennon! Wow! We have witnessed something VERY special tonight #PaulMcCartney #Glastonbury #PaulMcCartneyAtGlasto pic.twitter.com/kIkcpxTVhU

Why are people complaining that Paul McCartney is playing songs they don’t recognize. He has a back catalog going back more than 60 years, he can’t please everyone. Also, he’s 80 years old and smashing it, so fuck off! #Glastonbury

Paul McCartney Showed Support For Johnny Depp
He also played a clip of Johnny Depp during his set when he sang "My Valentine." Depp was there in the original video for McCartney’s song, alongside actress Natalie Portman. The video was projected onto huge screens around the Glastonbury stage, while McCartney performed on piano.
McCartney has been using the same footage of Depp during his recent US tour as well, which coincided with Depp’s high-profile court case with his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Fans seemed to be split down the middle over the inclusion of Depp.

Paul McCartney should not have used a backdrop video of Johnny Depp in a country where Johnny Depp was found to be a wife beater in 12 counts in the high court leaving his ex wife to fear for her life. #JohnnyDeppisawifebeater #PaulMcCartney #JohnnyDepp@PaulMcCartney
