The upcoming 2022 BET Awards will be honoring numerous prominent stars, including the famed Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who will be awarded for ‘Black Excellence.’
Diddy is universally known for his contributions to the entertainment industry and several charity works that have earned him accolades.
In addition, he has won several entertainment awards in the past, including three Grammys, and a few BET Awards, among others. He will now be adding the BETs Lifetime Achievement Award to his collection.
Diddy Is Set To Be Awarded For His Outstanding Representation Of Black Excellence
ET reported that BET recently announced that the notable rapper will be part of their honorees and will receive the lifetime achievement award later this month.
The outlet noted that he would be presented with the award while the show is broadcasted at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
As you may know, BET Lifetime Achievement Awards are only awarded to industry masterminds who have extensively shaped culture with their careers and continue to inspire generations by "setting a true standard of excellence."
Several past recipients of the significant award include entertainment legends like Queen Latifah, Whitney Houston, Prince, Mary J. Blige, New Edition, Anita Baker, Lionel Richie, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Regarding Diddy's achievement, BET's CEO Scott Mills released a statement showing that the prominent songwriter certainly deserved the accolade.
Mills stated, "Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, achieving unprecedented heights, blazing new trails, and in so doing, raising the bar for all of us."
He added, "His virtuosity is matched only by his range – from music to media, culture, business, and philanthropy – Diddy has exemplified Black Excellence."
The CEO further expressed the company's delight in using one of their "biggest stages" to acknowledge the record executive's "extraordinary accomplishments."
Meanwhile, the Executive Vice President of Specials, Music Programming, and Music Strategy, Connie Orlando, agreed with Mills as she voiced similar opinions about Diddy's impact on the industry.
She said it was satisfying to celebrate a legend like Diddy, whose influence had forged "historic paradigm shifts across music, media, fashion, and lifestyle."
Orlando declared that through entertainment, he had "laid the blueprint for Black excellence," and his legacy would continue to "break ground."
The vice president believed the Lifetime Achievement Award would reinforce Diddy's influence on hip hop and pop culture, and she could not be happier for her friend and colleague, whom she looked forward to celebrating.
BET Awards Executive Producer and Founder & CEO of Entertainment Jesse Collins also elaborated on the 52-year-old's accolade and "contributions to culture." In Collins' words:
"[Diddy's] contributions to culture transcend hip hop. Growing up in DC, I watched his rise at Howard University as he repped Black excellence from day one."
He added that it was an honor to celebrate the brilliant record producer now while he was still on his "incredible journey."
As for the main ceremony, it will be hosted by award-winning actress Taraji P. Henson and will air on Sunday, June 26, on BET at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Lil Nas X Reacts To BET's Zero Nominations With An Unreleased Diss Song
Not every Black successful star was fortunate enough to be added to BET's list of nominees. Unfortunately, talented musician Lil Nas X was excluded but did not take it so well, as shared by The Blast.
He recently called the company out in an unreleased music piece which was not surprising since he had zero BET nominations despite having a booming year and notable impact on Black culture.
BET was, however, quick to react to the song before its release by promising to "always rock" with the "Old Town Road" vocalist and represent the Black people.
Even with the media company's sign of peace, fans were not so convinced as they stated that the response was timed well ahead of Lil Nas X's song release to save face.
As for the diss song "Late to Da Party," the 23-year-old dropped a teaser on Twitter featuring YB after posting now-deleted tweets of him reacting to BET's exclusion from the awards.
Speaking of BET's much-loved ceremony, The Blast noted that Henson's hosting duties this year would be her second appearance as the annual event's host, as she originally made her debut last June.
The awards show announced the news earlier last month, and the outstanding actress was honored to reprise her role as the host.
She also commended her associates at the company for being fantastic and could not wait to share the stage with "so many powerful and prolific artists."
