Spencer Pratt‘s political pick was driven by rising danger, according to his own revelation.
The reality TV star-turned-politician revealed his strategy for choosing a political circle, and it turns out that his safety played a major role. This comes after news of death threats against him recently made waves amid his run as a candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles.
Spencer Pratt has his name on the lips of many since vying for office in January. Joining that list are the incumbent mayor, Karen Bass, and President Donald Trump, though on opposite sides of the pages.
Spencer Pratt Is A Gun-Owning Republican

Pratt sat down for an interview on “The Story Is With Elex Michaelson” on Thursday, where he revealed the reason behind his choice of political party.
The CNN anchor asked the former TV star why he is a Republican, and his answer came with some background story.
He revealed that he became a Republican because he received a ton of death threats as a reality TV star, which led to the need to protect himself. Because his safety was on edge, he decided to align himself with the party that supports gun ownership.
Pratt explained that he was once a “hated reality star” who got a slew of death threats. He continued, disclosing that his security team told him to purchase firearms, which he and his wife, Heidi Montag, did to protect themselves in “dangerous” Los Angeles.
‘The Hills’ Alum Says The Provision For Self-Protection Sealed The Deal

As TMZ reported, Pratt told Michaelson that getting the firearms to protect himself and his family from the death threats was not the end of the road.
They needed “CCWs,” and the only people who supported concealed carry weapons were the republicans, hence, it was a no-brainer that he had to align with the party.
The former reality TV star also admitted that guns are a very touchy subject; he had to make a choice and heed the advice of his security detail for the sake of his family’s safety.
Pratt stressed that he went through training and “the proper steps” to possess and handle a weapon.
Later in the interview, the mayoral aspirant said that he intends to be the mayor who would put “LAPD in front of every school to make schools safe from guns.”
He detailed that he has already started laying the foundations for his plans to protect children in schools from the raging effects of gun violence.
President Donald Trump Has High Hopes For The Media Personality

Among the celebrities singing his praises, Pratt has caught the eye of the president, who is also a Republican.
In a recent interview, Trump commented on the TV star’s mayoral campaign while departing Joint Base Andrews for Connecticut.
The politician was asked whether he saw similarities between himself and Pratt because they both rose to fame through reality television before entering politics.
Trump admitted that he does not know “The Hills” alum personally but supported his political vision, saying, “I’d like to see him do well. He’s a character.”
The Blast reported that Trump added, “I heard he’s a big MAGA person,” speaking of Pratt. These remarks fueled speculation that the former president could eventually support the TV personality’s aspiration to win in a highly Democratic city.
The father of two, however, has taken the president’s support with a pinch of salt as insiders reveal that Trump’s endorsement could hurt rather than help his political campaign.
Pratt Is Reportedly Dealing With ‘Credible Threats’

Pratt’s campaign team recently issued a statement informing all and sundry that he has been dealing with “credible threats” connected to his Los Angeles mayoral race.
His head of security noted that the safety of the media personality, his wife, and his two sons is their priority, and all hands are on deck to ensure they are safe from harm.
“We have increased and adjusted his security detail accordingly. We are also working closely with the LAPD to ensure the ongoing safety of Spencer and his family,” they said, adding that “Our sole focus is the protection of Spencer and his loved ones — not feeding tabloid speculation.”
The Blast shared that this came after Pratt was reportedly living in an Airstream trailer following the destruction of his home in the Palisades wildfire.
It was later reported that Montag and their sons now live in Carpinteria, while the aspiring mayor sought refuge at Hotel Bel-Air due to extra private armed protection.
Will Spencer Pratt Take Fans With Him If He Becomes Mayor?

Pratt may be mixing two worlds come successful election into office in November. The reality TV star-turned-politician seemingly has yet to shed his skin as an entertainer, as sources reveal he signed a contract to document his political journey.
The Blast shared that Pratt’s deal with an L.A. production company, Boardwalk Pictures, says they would document his political race as he runs for a seat in government and would continue if he is eventually sworn into office.
Insiders noted that the father of two and the production company have yet to establish how filming the show would continue after the campaign stage is complete. His family is said to be a major part of the upcoming show currently being filmed.
Even though Montag and the kids now live separately from Pratt, who is focused on his political aspirations, if he wins the election, the whole family will presumably move into the Mayor’s mansion in the Hancock Park area of L.A., making filming less of a hassle.
