Spencer Pratt’s already chaotic mayoral campaign just exploded into another headline-grabbing fight after the reality star went scorched-earth on a journalist who questioned where he’s really living.

The former “Hills” star unloaded on social media after being mocked over comments about potentially leaving Los Angeles if he loses the June election.

Now, Pratt’s emotional response, ongoing wildfire frustrations, and accusations about media treatment are becoming just as controversial as his campaign against Karen Bass and Nithya Raman.

Spencer Pratt Declared He’ll Leave Los Angeles If He Loses

Spencer Pratt sparked the latest wave of controversy after openly admitting he may walk away from Los Angeles entirely if voters reject his mayoral bid.

During a recent appearance on “The Adam Carolla Show,” the 42-year-old discussed his frustrations with the city’s current leadership while explaining why he no longer feels hopeful about rebuilding his life in LA.

“If Karen Bass gets re-elected or Nithya [Raman] gets elected, I will be done with trying to live in LA,” Pratt said per The Blast, adding, “I’ll go find somewhere my kids will not have to see naked zombies, and I can have the last American Dream somewhere. I will not rebuild if these people are in charge.”

The comments immediately gained traction online, partly because Pratt has made the destruction of his Pacific Palisades home one of the emotional centerpieces of his campaign.

The reality star lost his $3.8 million property during the devastating 2025 wildfire that tore through Los Angeles and destroyed thousands of homes.

Pratt Exploded After Journalist Mocked His Living Situation

The situation escalated when Variety Chief Correspondent Marlow Stern publicly questioned Spencer Pratt’s comments online.

Stern referenced reports claiming the reality TV star’s wife, Heidi Montag, and their children have been staying in Carpinteria near Santa Barbara, writing on X, “He lives in Santa Barbara.”

That single post triggered a furious reaction from Pratt, who accused the journalist of mocking a family still recovering from disaster.

“My house burned down. I lost everything. I can’t rebuild. As a 42-year-old man with 2 kids, I’ve had to move into my parents’ house, and I’m getting attacked for that? This is journalism?” Pratt fired back on X.

The former MTV star continued unloading on Stern while accusing modern politics and media culture of discouraging decent people from public service.

“This is why no decent people ever get into politics. This is why you only have goblins running everything,” he continued. Pratt then added one of his harshest lines yet.

“God help you if you try to make things right for your community…if you lose your entire town, ‘journalists’ mock you for not making your kids sleep in the toxic dirt on your burned-out lot. Who raised you, dude?” he wrote.

Shortly afterward, Pratt reportedly blocked Stern on X.

The public clash arrived only days after Pratt defended himself against another damaging report about where he has been staying during the campaign.

TMZ reported that Pratt had been living at the ultra-luxurious Hotel Bel-Air despite previously saying he was staying in a trailer outside his destroyed property.

The famous hotel reportedly costs at least $1,500 per night and includes amenities like tennis courts, spa services, and a private pool.

Critics quickly accused the Los Angeles mayoral candidate of misleading voters about his living situation, but the reality star insisted there was a much darker reason behind the move.

“Hey guys, why don’t they wanna talk about why I need a hotel in the first place?” Pratt wrote on X after the report surfaced, further noting, “Karen Bass let my home burn down. Also, 6,000 of my neighbors. NBD.”

Pratt later explained that security concerns forced him into the heavily protected hotel property because he no longer felt safe elsewhere.

As his campaign gains momentum, Spencer Pratt has revealed that the hostility surrounding his candidacy has intensified dramatically.

According to the 42-year-old, he has received death threats serious enough to completely change his day-to-day life.

Speaking to TMZ, he claimed his trailer setup was no longer safe and said the Hotel Bel-Air became necessary because of its armed security presence.

Pratt blamed supporters of Bass and Raman for fueling the hostility, referring to their supporters as “Bassholes and Ramaniacs.” He also claimed that the threats increased after his recent debate performances began to generate attention online.

“Since I destroyed them in the debate, and am surging in the polls, they are getting increasingly desperate and hostile,” Pratt.

The reality star has repeatedly positioned himself as an outsider candidate angry over homelessness, crime, drug issues, and the wildfire response in Los Angeles.

Despite the endless controversies, Pratt’s campaign continues to gain traction as the June 2 primary election approaches.

A few days ago, an Emerson College poll revealed that incumbent Mayor Bass currently leads with 30% support, while Pratt surged into second place with 22%, marking a major jump from earlier polling.

Another UCLA poll released earlier in the race showed Pratt at 11%. Pratt has also raised nearly $540,000 for his campaign, placing him among the race’s top fundraisers.

Following a fiery televised debate, an NBC4 online poll even showed 88% of viewers declaring Pratt the winner.

His support appears strongest among Republican and independent voters, while viral campaign videos and celebrity endorsements have helped fuel his unexpected rise.
