Spencer Pratt‘s mayoral campaign was the subject of Chelsea Handler‘s social media post, with the comedian sharing why she doesn’t support the former reality star’s political ambition. Handler candidly let her thoughts be known while enjoying a drink, and Pratt quickly responded with a post of his own.
Pratt and Handler’s jabs against each other are nothing new, as the two famously had tension in the late 2000s due to the latter’s scathing remarks about Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag.
Chelsea Handler Takes A Dig At Spencer Pratt

On May 15, comedian Chelsea Handler took to Instagram to share her thoughts about Pratt’s mayoral campaign. While enjoying a drink, Handler reminded her followers why a “straight, white male former reality star that has no previous experience in government should not be a legitimate political candidate.”
“Have we learned anything yet?” Handler asked, while a photo of Donald Trump flashed. She continued her rant, saying the “bar is on the f-cking floor” and she needs people to “jump over it.” She ended her announcement by wishing her followers a nice day.
Pratt officially launched his mayoral campaign in January, announcing his intention on the anniversary of the California fires. The former reality star completely lost his Pacific Palisades home to the devastating fires and is running for the mayor of Los Angeles due to his frustrations over Mayor Karen Bass’ handling of the crisis.
Spencer Pratt Claps Back At The Comedian

In response to Handler’s post, Pratt took to X, writing, “Most of you have probably never heard of Chelsea Handler, so here’s an introduction!” He included a clip of comedian Shane Gillis talking about Handler at “The Roast of Kevin Hart,” in which Gillis made verbal jabs at Handler.
“Chelsea Handler went to dinner at Jeffrey Epstein’s house in 2010… You look it up, there’s articles,” Gillis told the audience, adding that there were only seven people at the dinner. Handler has addressed that incident on Rob Lowe’s podcast, saying that was the first and only time she had met Epstein.
She said she was invited by journalist Kati Couric, and other people in attendance apart from Epstein were Woody Allen, Soon-Yi Previn, Charlie Rose, and Prince Andrew. Handler said the vibe was awkward and weird, and she left the dinner.
Some Celebrities Agreed With Chelsea Handler

While some celebrities have shown their support for Pratt’s political run, others agreed with Handler’s take on the issue. Actress Busy Philipps commented on the comedian’s Instagram post, writing, “i love you thank you good lord,” seemingly agreeing with Handler’s opinion.
Marissa Tomei also reacted, commenting five clapping hands emojis. Actress and singer Holly Robinson Peete agreed as well, writing four “100” emojis. Veteran actor Henry Winkler added his two cents, commenting a series of fire emojis to Handler’s post.
Interestingly, Pratt’s own sister, Stephanie, has been vocal about her opposition to her brother’s mayoral run. In February, Stephanie posted a series of tweets saying that while her brother has done “great” things for the Palisades, Los Angeles does not need “another unqualified and inexperienced mayor.” Pratt’s sister alleges that he is running for office to stay relevant and “sell his memoir.”
Chelsea Handler Had Some Scathing Remarks About Spencer Pratt And Heidi Montag

The tension between Handler and Pratt stems from the 2000s, at the height of the latter’s fame. Pratt and his then-girlfriend Heidi Montag, now wife, appeared on the MTV reality hit series, “The Hills,” which aired from 2006 to 2010. The couple, dubbed “Speidi,” were depicted as the “villains” in the show, often causing friction among the cast.
At about that time, Handler made some harsh comments about the couple on her talk show, “Chelsea Lately,” and in other interviews. She criticized Pratt and Montag’s looks, mocked them, and claimed they leaned into their roles as villains in the show for popularity. Moreover, she questioned their intelligence and talent, at one point even referring to the couple as “Herpes 1 and 2.”
Spencer Pratt’s Mayoral Campaign Gains Traction

The top three candidates leading the Los Angeles mayoral race are Pratt, incumbent Mayor Karen Bass, and City Councilmember Nithya Raman. According to a report from Fox, Bass is leading with 30 percent support, followed by Pratt in second place at 22 percent. Meanwhile, Raman is in third place with 19 percent. Polls show that the majority of senior voters prefer Bass, while Pratt is supported by mostly male voters.
Pratt has expressed confidence in winning the campaign, at one point saying he will be getting 51 percent of the votes. The former reality star is a registered Republican, but noted, “This is a nonpartisan race – there will be no D or R next to my name. As mayor, I will not serve either party. I will work with anyone who wants to help the City. No labels necessary.”
