Aaron Carter passed away at the age of 34 nearly one year ago, and now his brother, Nick Carter, is speaking out, stating he is "still processing" the loss.
According to our previous report, the 34-year-old "I Want Candy" singer was found submerged underwater and unresponsive in his bathtub by a housekeeper, who was reportedly knocking at the door to offer him coffee. His official cause of death is “drowning” while under the influence of an aerosol duster and Xanax.
Nick Carter 'Still Processing' Aaron Carter's Death Nearly One Year Later
Nearly one year after losing his brother, Nick Carter, 43, spoke out about the tragic loss, admitting he is "still processing" everything.
“I’m just still processing the whole thing,” the Backstreet Boys member told E! News. “And sometimes you push it down because you don’t want to think about it.”
Per our previous article, Aaron's toxicology tests showed “difluoroethane” in his system, which is commonly found in aerosol dusters and compressed air cans. “Difluoroethane is a gas commonly used as a propellant in air spray cleaners for electronic devices that can induce feelings of euphoria when inhaled. It is known to have cardiotoxic effects which can lead to cardiac arrhythmias and sudden cardiac arrest,” the toxicology report stated.
A common benzodiazepine — Xanax — was also found in his system at the time of death.
Nick Carter began crying in the interview with the outlet, before stating, “And then it comes out, like this. I’m hoping one day I can make sense of it all.”
Nick Carter Recalls The Good Times He Had With Aaron Carter
The Backstreet Boy member then reminisced on the "good times" he had with his younger brother, adding that this year's holiday season won't be the same.
“When I think back and I get to these holidays, like Halloween, these are like moments and milestones and times when I’ve actually shared those memories with my brother,” the 43-year-old explained. “Even though I’m sharing it with my kids and my family now, there are times when I sit by myself or if I’m in my car and I say to myself, ‘This is unbelievable'."
Aaron's toxicology report indicated that “based on the autopsy findings, investigative reports, and circumstances, as currently known, Mr. Carter became incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects of inhaling compressed gas and taking alprazolam.”
“This resulted in him becoming submerged under water, unable to breathe, and ultimately led to his death," the report continued. "The cause of death is drowning due to the effects of difluoroethane and alprazolam. The manner of death is an accident.”
Nick and Aaron Seemingly Never Reconciled
Nick and Aaron had multiple falling outs over the years, and although it has never been confirmed, it seems the two did not make up prior to his death as the "I Want It That Way" singer did note “it hurts” to not be able to reconcile with him.
“No matter what he and I have gone through in our own lives we were always able to make amends, always were able to get back to that place and now I can’t anymore,” he added.
