Pop star Britney Spears came back to Instagram late Saturday night after deactivating her account on Friday night.

The move came only hours after the now 41-year-old pop star released a short statement saying that she never intended to "offend" anyone with her memoir and confessed that she was reading headlines about her book that she did not like, although she did not clarify what about the headlines frustrated her.

On Friday afternoon, hours before she deactivated her Instagram account, the "Toxic" singer posted a message to X and Instagram, explaining that she has "moved on" from some of the events in her past and insisted that she didn't mean to "offend" anyone with her story.

“My book’s purpose was not to offend anyone by any means !!! That was me then …that is in the past !!!” she began. “I don’t like the headlines I am reading …that’s exactly why I quit the business 4 years ago !!! Most of the book is from 20 years ago … I have moved on and it’s a beautiful clean slate from here !!!”

“I am here to establish it that way for the rest of my entire life !!!” she continued. “Either way, that is the last of it and s— happens !! This is actually a book didn’t know needed to be written … although some might be offended, it has given me closure on all things for a better future !!!”

“Hopefully I can enlighten people who feel particularly alone in most cases or hurt or misunderstood !!! Again, my motive for this book was not to harp on my past experiences which is what the press is doing and it’s dumb and silly !!!” she concluded. “I have moved on since then !! #TheWomaninMe.”

Britney's Memoir Focuses On Her Relationship With Her Family

Some of the memoir focuses on the pop star's relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, which included allegations of infidelity and an unplanned pregnancy.

However, other elements of her memoir focused on her conservatorship, which lasted from February 2008 to November 2021. Her father, Jamie Spears, 71, was named as her conservator for most of that time period and got full control over her personal and financial affairs at the time. In an excerpt from “The Woman In Me” published by People magazine on Thursday, Britney reflected on the amount of control her father had over her career and her appearance at that time.

“Thirteen years went by with me feeling like a shadow of myself. I think back now on my father and his associates having control over my body and my money for that long and it makes me feel sick,” she wrote. “Think of how many male artists gambled all their money away; how many had substance abuse or mental health issues. No one tried to take away their control over their bodies and money. I didn’t deserve what my family did to me.”

Britney Explained Why She Shaved Off Her Hair In 2007

In another excerpt, she explained that the constant criticism over her appearance was why she shaved her head in 2007. “I’d been eyeballed so much growing up, I’d been looked up and down, had people telling me what they thought of my body since I was a teenager. Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back,” she wrote.

Sadly, she lost all control over how she wanted to look during her conservatorship. “But under the conservatorship, I was made to understand that those days were now over. I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take,” she wrote, explaining that she faced criticism about her appearance from her own father.

“If I thought getting criticized about my body in the press was bad, it hurt even more from my own father,” she continued. “He repeatedly told me I looked fat and that I was going to have to do something about it.”

Britney Returned To Instagram With A Video Of Her In A White Dress

The "Overprotected" singer took to Instagram on Saturday night to share her standing in her living room with a lit Christmas tree in the background. She had posted this same video earlier in the week, claiming that she had made that dress herself in the caption.

In this caption, she claimed that the dress is three years old but she hasn't worn it until now. In the caption of this Instagram post, she wrote, “CLASSIC !!! This dress !!! It snapped in the back when I started shooting, OF COURSE !!! I’ve waited three years to wear it … have no idea why ??? 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ HMMMM.”

Comments on this post, like most of her recent Instagram posts, were disabled, but fans are hoping that, since she’s not giving any interviews about her new memoir, she will continue to talk about it on social media.
