Suzanne Somers Reportedly Turned Down Chemotherapy Before Death

Suzanne Somers reportedly took her last breath on her own terms.
The actress passed away on Sunday surrounded by her loved ones following a protracted battle with breast cancer. However, fresh details have emerged concerning how she handled the disease before her death.
Somers is famous for her role as Chrissy Snow in "Three's Company" and has authored more than 24 books.
Chemotherapy Was Never An Option For Suzanne Somers
Throughout her decades-long battle with cancer, friends and family of Somers reportedly tried to convince her to consider a more effective treatment, but it was met with complete refusal.
"Suzanne chose not to do chemotherapy to treat her cancer and opted for a more holistic approach," a source to the late actress revealed. "She was advised by several people to consider the more conventional approach, but she did not listen."
The source explained that the "Step By Step" alum always rejected chemotherapy even during her first cancer bout with cancer, and "her friends and loved ones urged her to reconsider so many times during her cancer battles and at the end."
The insider told the Daily Mail that the timing of the cancer recurrence might have contributed to Somers' refusal because found out at the beginning of summer and "didn't have that long to really do anything other than accept it."
Nevertheless, the late actress was very confident in her decision and shared no regrets about her decision to choose holistic treatment methods like alternative medicine and bioidentical hormones.
"She never regretted her decisions and she was prepared to go. She believed that she lived a life beyond her wildest dreams and truly made a dent in the world."
The singer died a day before her 77th birthday and 23 years after he first cancer diagnosis in the arms of her 87-year-old husband, Alan Hamel. Luckily, the actress was able to bid farewell to her loved ones shortly before she breathed her last.
"The timing of her passing was a blessing because her loved ones were there, and she was able to say her goodbyes to everyone she loved, which was so many people. She was accepting of her fate and went with dignity," another source confirmed.
The 'Step by Step" star was married to Hamel for 46 years and they had been together for 55 years. The 87-year-old reminisced about his final days with Somers in an interview and said, "We were in bed together and her breathing was erratic, and I had been talking to her for hours. There was no response except when I kissed her, she responded, and then around five o'clock in the morning, she was gone."
Following her passing, her publicist R. Couri Hay, released a statement, sharing that her cancer relapsed over the summer. He continued, "Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. "
The statement continued that the star's 77th birthday will now become a celebration of her "extraordinary life" and thanked "her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly." Hay also shared that Somers would be buried this week in an intimate burial ceremony, with plans for a more elaborate memorial in November.
Somers broke the news of her breast cancer returning on July 31 in an Instagram emotional post with a picture of herself and Hamel. "As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me," she wrote.
She expressed her optimism towards beating the disease, adding, "I know how to put on my battle gear and I'm a fighter. Alan has been by my side every step of the way. I can't even explain how much he has done for me. If it's even possible, we are even closer than ever."
The 'American Graffiti' Actress Basked In Hamel's Love Till Death
Hamel stuck by Somers's side till the end and even gave her a very loving birthday present shortly before she departed this world. The 87-year-old wrote a heartfelt poem for his wife, which she read before she finally passed away peacefully in her sleep.
"My daily life encompasses things and people I love and things and people I am indifferent to. I'm back to feelings… There are no words. There are no actions. No promises. No declarations," an excerpt of the poem read. "Even the green-shaded scholars of the Oxford University Press have spent 150 years and still have failed to come up with that one word. So I Will call it, 'us', uniquely, magically, indescribably wonderful "us.'"
Earlier in the year, Somers celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on her Instagram by sharing an adorable before and after picture of them with a caption: "Still smiling 55 years later ☺️ #TBT 🫶."
