Britney Spears' Knife Dancing Video Draw Comparisons To Shakira's VMAs Knife Dance

Pop star Britney Spears might have been inspired by Shakira for her latest dancing video.

The 41-year-old Princess of Pop grabbed two knives as she danced around in her living room. Fortunately, she assured fans they are fake, as attempting knife dancing at home can be quite dangerous!

On Monday night, the "Toxic" singer took to Instagram to share a video of her dancing around her living room with knives in her hands.

In the caption of this Instagram post, Britney wrote, “I started playing in the kitchen with knives today ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️ !!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon ??? !!!”

Fans felt that she might have been inspired by Shakira, who danced with knives for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, which aired earlier this month.

On Tuesday, September 12, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer performed with two daggers in her hands as she danced at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, fans ventured that Shakira was paying homage to an Arabic dance known as the dance of the daggers.

MTV later posted a clip of Shakira's performance to their Instagram page. In the caption, they wrote, “There'd have to be medical personnel on SITE if I tried to recreate @shakira's knife dance ?? #VMAs.”

Many fans believe that Britney tried to recreate Shakira's knife dance at home and posted it on Instagram, although she didn't tag Shakira in the caption or allude to her video at all.

Fans had a lot of mixed reactions to the pop star's dancing video. Some doubted that the knives were fake while others felt that it was unwise to let Britney be "trusted" with knives.

“Difference being, one of those women can be trusted around sharp objects,” one fan commented. “Why are they comparing her to a Shakira performance? She needs to be back on conservatorship,” another follower wrote. “Oh dear, Britney...please sit down,” a third fan added.

“I like to keep it real so I don’t think it is lol, when she hit the knives against each other they made a sound so you can tell they are real and that part about the knives being fake was added later. but it’s obvious she was just having fun and was inspired by Shakira lol,” another user ventured.

Last month, sources told TMZ that the pop star had a “fascination with knives” amid her divorce from Iranian actor Sam Asghari. One source said that she kept knives in her bedroom and “was paranoid someone was going to get her, and she needed the knives as protection.”

Another insider told The Sun that Britney’s “behavior has become concerning and everyone is worried about her.” They also echoed that Britney has a “weird obsession” with knives that she has been “throwing” and “hiding” around her Thousand Oaks estate.

“She has a weird obsession with knives. She has been throwing them at the walls and hiding them down the sofa,” the insider claimed. “It is as though she is paranoid someone is after her and she needs the knives as protection.”

In her January 2022 memoir, “Things I Should Have Said,” the pop star’s younger sister, “Zoey 101” star Jamie Lynn Spears detailed an interaction between her sister and a knife in 2004:

“She said to me, ‘Baby, I’m scared’, and took a large knife from the kitchen, pulled me along to my room and she locked us both inside.”

At the time, Britney responded to the allegations on Twitter, writing, “Jamie Lynn … congrats babe! You’ve stooped to a whole new level of LOW … I’ve never been around you ever with a knife or would I ever even think to do such !!!”

“The only knife I ever saw you with at home was cutting the biggest pieces of squash I ever saw in my life and it was too big for me to cut,” she wrote at the time. “So please please stop with these crazy lies for the Hollywood books !!!”

The "Overprotected" singer called the "Sweet Magnolias" actress “scum,” adding, “I wish the almighty, Lord would come down and show this whole world that you’re lying and making money off of me !!!! You are scum, Jamie Lynn.”

However, it looks like the two estranged sisters might have made up after Britney claimed they met on the set of "Zoey 102" earlier this year.
