The year 2023 has dished out a rollercoaster of love, proposals, weddings, anniversaries, and of course breakups in the celebrity world, and sadly, our favorite stars are splitting up faster than we can say 'I do'!
While these couples were the 'it' lovers for many fans, it goes without saying that some things are just not built to last, and it's best to know when to call it quits. Sit back and read about the most shocking queer split-ups of 2023 and how fans reacted to it.
Billy Porter And Adam Smith
Half a decade is a long time to get to know someone, but for American actor and singer, Billy Porter and his soon-to-be ex-husband, Adam Smith, it's time to move on. The pair decided to end what fans thought was a blissful marriage after six years, and all everyone wants to know is why...
They jointly took to social media to announce the separation, however, they remained tight-lipped about the circumstances leading to the breakup. Although the duo have been married for a long time, they do not share any children, rather, they own a cockapoo named Lola. Smith and Porter first disclosed their romance in 2009 and dated for subsequent years until 2017 when they announced their engagement. 14 days later, the sweethearts got hitched.
Porter recently commented on his now single life, saying the experience is 'bittersweet.' Despite the fact that he feels emotional about his recent breakup coupled with the ongoing Hollywood strike, the actor said he is now in the market for an 'English huzzzband.'
Hunter Schafer And Dominic Fike
"Euphoria" co-stars, Hunter Schafer and Dominic Fike surprised fans when they kicked off an official off-screen romance on Instagram last year. While it is unclear how and when these two started dating, in July 2023, Fike confirmed the breakup to Zane Lowe during an interview with Apple Music.
Fike was fortunately offered a return deal to "Euphoria" for season three. The 27-year-old says he was given a second chance after almost getting kicked off the series for his incessant drug use. He also told Lowe during the interview that he was almost at the end of the road, as things were 'going downhill fast.' He is now fully sober, and fans are excited to see him in season three of the HBO series.
Schafer on the other hand, who once described herself as 'bi or pan,' has not commented on the painful split, and is going about her business as usual. Recently, the 24-year-old posted a photo of a movie poster, confirming her role in Lionsgate's “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
Ricky Martin And Jwan Yosef
Celebrity marriages often have their ups and downs, especially with the growing media presence and paparazzi, but it's nerve wrecking when one of our favorite queer couple decide to get a divorce. Per The Blast, Puerto Rican singer, Ricky Martin was the one who filed for divorce on July 5,2023.
This came after the exes gave a joint statement on Instagram stating that after careful consideration, they decided it was best to go their separate ways. The pair who were married for six years, share two beautiful children, Lucia and Renn, both four and three years old respectively.
The Blast also confirmed through obtained legal documents in August that the ex-partners have settled on their divorce and split properties accordingly without any issues.
Darren Hayes And Richard Cullen
Darren Hayes, a former frontman for a popular pop duo known as Savage Garden filed for divorce from his longtime husband, Richard Cullen. The couple who said their vows more than a decade ago are officially getting divorced.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, Hayes spearheaded the divorce filing which was presented in the Los Angeles courthouse as few days ago. Although he cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, it is puzzling that the pair who have been married for almost two decades decided they were done.
Hayes and Cullen reportedly got married in 2005 after dating for only two years, but in the 17-year union, the duo had no children.
