Simon Cowell’s son, Eric, has his eyes set on the spotlight!
The “X Factor” creator and his fiancé Lauren Silverman welcomed Eric in 2014. Since having his mini-me, the entrepreneur has gushed about how his boy has impacted his life positively.
Already, the little boy is proving to have the same musical skills as his dad and wants to follow in his footsteps. Recently, the TV producer revealed that his kid has plans to join a music band and audition for “Britain’s Got Talent.”
Simon Cowell Says His Son Has Intentions Of Joining A Band And Auditioning On ‘Britain’s Got Talent’
The Music mogul proudly opened up about his nine-year-old’s intentions to come into the spotlight with his singing and drumming talents. “Now he’s going to audition for Britain’s Got Talent,” Cowell shared. “I think he wants to be in a rock band. He loves Green Day.”
The “BGT” creator then poked fun at his son’s ambitions, “That's going to be total torture,” Cowell said to ET Online. “I mean, of all the things I've ever done, this will probably be the hardest because he does play drums. [He's] going to drum and sing! I went, 'Oh God, no.’”
And for anyone thinking Eric’s ambitions are jokes, the Talent agent added that his boy is serious about it. “But he's really serious about it," the TV judge emphasized. “I don't know what it is. Maybe because all these kids are auditioning, and now he wants to be up there with his friends.”
Further into the conversation, the 63-year-old TV personality revealed his 9-year-old boy has helped him in his judging duties on “AGT,” and his reactions to every performance are genuine.
According to the doting dad, his little boy is "a great barometer" for talent as his reactions to each performance tell if it is good or not. Cowell described, “And with kids, you can't fake it, you know? If they like something, they like it. If they don't like it, they're bored.”
This confession aligns with Cowell’s previous revelation that his son calls the shots in their home and his judge duties. At that time, the TV judge candidly confessed, “It’s nonstop, by the way,” before adding, “I have a good idea what he’s going to be when older. He’s got his own opinion, and he is his own man, which is really important.”
He continued, “The great thing is when I watch the shows when they go out, I’m looking at Eric thinking, does he like something? And he’s normally right.”
The ‘America’s Got Talent’ Judge Credited His Son For Saving Him From Obsession With Work
For Cowell, his son means everything to him, and the little boy’s arrival prompted Cowell to reevaluate his lifestyle and make essential changes. The English businessman once praised his son for saving him from a dark obsession with his work.
According to the music mogul, he was consumed with “X Factor’s” rating battle with “Strictly Come Dancing,” which negatively impacted his life. But all that changed after his son’s birth. He confessed, “If Eric hadn’t come along. God knows what would have happened.”
Cowell revealed the height of his obsession, pointing out that he began to physically harm himself when the hit show began to crash before it ended in 2018. The record producer disclosed,
“Before Eric, my life was 99 percent work – I was obsessed with it. I got to that point where everything was about, ‘If you’re not rating against this, then you’re a failure, and I stopped enjoying what I was doing, and I was miserable the whole time.”
Additionally, the English TV personality admitted to being addicted to winning the competition such that he took it to an extreme level and thought of ways to beat it. As such, he devised outrageous ideas like the “six-chair challenge.” At other times, he wondered if he should have ended the show sooner.
However, his obsession changed with his boy’s presence, making him balance his work and personal life. “But Eric changed everything, to be honest. After I lost my mum and dad, you kind of think you’re never going to feel that love again – that’s it.”
