Simon Cowell is genuinely giving credit to whom credit is due!
The English TV mogul, known for his influence on the “X Factor” and “Got Talent” franchises, recently got candid about how his life turned around for the better, all thanks to his son, Eric. Cowell opened up about being overly obsessed with his work in the past and appreciating the 8-year-old, whom he shares with his fiancée Lauren Silverman, for saving him.
Simon Cowell Says He May Still Be Trapped In A ‘Toxic Cycle Of Misery’ If Not For Son

Before the birth of the onscreen star’s only child, he was admittedly obsessed with “X Factor’s” rating battle with “Strictly Come Dancing,” which negatively impacted his life. However, after Eric’s birth and in the last couple of years, he has turned his life around. He confessed to The Sun, “If Eric hadn’t come along. God knows what would have happened.”
Cowell revealed that he got to a low point in his life during which he physically harmed himself when the hit show began to crash before it ended in 2018. Without his son, he might still be stuck in a “toxic cycle of misery,” given his complete involvement in an addiction to work when he was not a father.
The record producer disclosed, “Before Eric, my life was 99 percent work – I was obsessed with it.” He added that ratings were everything to him at that time in his life, making him feel wretched. In his words:
“I got to that point where everything was about, ‘If you’re not rating against this, then you’re a failure, and I stopped enjoying what I was doing, and I was miserable the whole time.”
He further admitted to being consumed with triumphing over the competition such that he took it to an extreme level and would get really depressed about “that stuff.”

Since Cowell is not a “wall puncher,” he took to tearing his hair out and would sit up at 4 am asking himself, “What am I going to do?” prompting him to come up with outrageous ideas like the “six-chair challenge.”
He pondered to the publication if he should have ended the program sooner, which he believed could have happened. He also revealed that the final year was “very much an ego-driven thing,” as they had to be better than everyone else.
The “X Factor” creator did not enjoy that phase of his life and was “really unhappy,” but thankfully, Eric came around, and he does not work through the night again. Lauding his son for transforming his life, he confessed that he is very different from the pretty spiteful man and “borderline manic workaholic” he was a decade ago. He said:
“But Eric changed everything, to be honest.” After I lost my mum and dad, you kind of think you’re never going to feel that love again – that’s it.”
Cowell has been full of praise for his boy as The Blast recently shared that Cowell’s son has also tried helping him “almost” quit smoking. The TV show judge spoke about this on Extra during the discussion about his new talent discovery, “StemDrop – A Song for the World.”

He mentioned during the conversation that Eric was very strict and watchful of him, making him have to “sneak around the hedges” to have his regular “four puffs.” Whenever the tot caught him, it was like being back at school, and even with his sneaking, Eric still followed him around, leading him to tell him one day, “‘Thanks to you, I’ve nearly quit.”
The BAFTA Award Recipient Drops An Interesting Detail About Upcoming Wedding To Lauren Silverman
Cowell and his fiancée are making big plans for their imminent wedding, and while full details are kept hush-hush, the prominent entrepreneur had no qualms with sharing a few specifics in August.
The Blast reported that he admitted that he was not so involved in the planning process and was instead allowing his partner make most of the decisions for the big day. Even with his limited involvement, the Syco founder and sole owner wished for one thing at the ceremony – a puppy, and would not mind it being the ring bearer.
Fans are no doubt looking forward to the union even after months since Cowell popped the question to Silverman in Barbados, where the lovers’ love affair initially started. At the time of the engagement, the couple’s kid, Eric, and the socialite’s son, Adam, from her first marriage were present, making the event more cherishable.
