In a heart-to-heart interview, the Teen Choice Award winner got candid about exploring her sexuality in her recent project, "Planet Sex." The positively-received BBC documentary addressed the challenges the TV personality faced while embracing her queer identity.

According to the "Mirror, Mirror" co-author, she suffered from "internalized homophobia and shame" regarding her identity. Eventually, she learned to shed the negativity and gained "an awareness and acceptance of the fact that it will always evolve."

When asked about her identity, Delevingne noted that she finally felt "comfortable" in her "skin" and "queerness." Perhaps the model's younger self would have achieved this state sooner if there had been more female representatives in the LGBTQ+ community while she was growing up.

Looking back, the "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" star noted she did not find icons to look up to until she was older, and they were all males. The list included Elton John, George Michael, David Bowie, and Prince.

"Representation is important, especially for young people, who feel like they’re alone, to see people who are like them – and to see anyone in the umbrella of the LGBTQIA+ flag. It’s all family," the Hammersmith beauty explained to ELLE UK.

On "Planet Sex," Delevingne lamented about losing the opportunity to participate in the queer community after achieving success at a young age. However, she can finally give the upcoming generation the female heroes they can idolize, thanks to her romance with Minke.

The model then confessed, "Being with my girlfriend, in this relationship, there are just so many things that came at once that have made me so happy and comfortable with who I am."

Additionally, the TV personality recalled the duo's LA Pride appearance, where Minke did a drum solo with a pair of dildos. "It was fan-tas-tic," Delevingne chimed, enunciating each syllable with a bright smile.

Inside The Model's Fairytale Romance With The British Singer

Given the "Suicide Squad" star's deep adoration for her girlfriend, one might wonder what made the songstress unique to the Hammersmith native. Looking back at their relationship timeline, the exact date of their romance remained a mystery. However, the pair began making waves in 2022.

Last June, the duo were spotted sharing a passionate kiss while enjoying a romantic getaway in Portofino. The PDA moment came a day after the lovebirds flaunted their love with a sweet selfie in Venice.

During an interview for Vogue Magazine, the model revealed the pair had been dating for over a year. This meant they were probably an item months before they were photographed on their vacation.

Months later, the couple welcomed the new year together, an intimate moment Cara Delevingne described as "having the nicest time." At this time, the 30-year-old was navigating a sober lifestyle, an achievement she admitted would not have been possible without Minke.

"She’s the type of person who has boundaries, and there came a point with me when she wasn’t going to have it much longer, and it was a blessing in disguise," the supermodel explained. "It’s the first time I feel like I’m in a relationship, not trying to rescue someone."

Delevingne and Minke first met as students of Bedales, a prestigious liberal arts boarding school in Hampshire, England. Their bond ended after graduation. However, fate reconnected them 12 years later at an Alanis Morissette concert.
