Britney Spears Fires Back At Radio Station Saying She 'Deserved To Be Smacked'

Singer Britney Spears just announced that her new memoir, "The Woman In Me," will hit bookshelves on October 24, 2023. However, there was one traumatic incident that didn't make it in the tell-all new book.
Last week, the "Hold Me Closer" singer was slapped by a security guard for the San Antonio Spurs, who was traveling with 19-year-old French athlete Victor Wembanyama. The 41-year-old pop star saw the NBA star walking outside the Catch restaurant at the ARIA Hotel in Las Vegas and went over to ask for a photo.
After she tapped him on the shoulder, the security guard "backhanded" her across the face, causing the glasses to fly off her face. The surveillance footage of the incident quickly went viral, although law enforcement officials said that the security guard will face no charges for the incident.
On Tuesday night, following the announcement of her highly-anticipated memoir, Britney shared three videos on her Instagram page. Two of those videos promoted her new memoir, while the third video addressed the slap that happened last week.

On Tuesday night, Britney stepped in front of the camera in her living room wearing a long-sleeve floral top, a khaki skirt, and brown boots instead of the pointed white boots she usually wears when she dances. She has her long blonde hair tied back and hooks her thumbs into the waistband of her skirt as she talks.
“Hi, so I want to share with you guys an incident that happened in Vegas that a lot of people are talking about,” Britney began. “And I heard on the news, this radio station, talking smack, and talking s---, and that’s why I’m addressing it.”
She said that the radio station claimed that she “deserved to be smacked.” According to Britney, the radio station claimed that “Security was doing their job” and “protecting their client.” Britney went on to say, “I’ve been with the most famous people in the world – NSYNC at one time – girls would like literally throw themselves at them.”
“On my way into the place, actually, I was knocked down by, like, three 12-year-olds trying to get my picture,” Britney revealed. “My security not one time touched them or even came near them.”
Britney Wants A 'Public Apology' For The Las Vegas Incident
“Point being is, I didn’t appreciate the people saying that I deserved to be hit because no woman ever deserves to be hit. I simply tapped him on the back. I was backhanded, hit in my face, and came back on the floor. My best friend picked me up and held me.”
“And, um, I did get an apology,” Britney went on to say, as she had expressed in her initial statement on Instagram that she had not gotten an apology from Victor, the security guard, or the organization representing the security team. She revealed that she got the apology at her table thirty minutes after the slap occurred, presumably from the security guard.
“But I have yet to receive a public apology,” Britney added. “And that’s it.”
Victor Wembanyama Won’t Say If He Will Apologize To Britney Spears
Over the weekend, Victor Wembanyama was surrounded by fans while he was in Las Vegas for NBA Con. According to video footage obtained by TMZ, he is still using the same security team, and possibly the same security guard, that "smacked" Britney Spears. Although he was mobbed by fans, fortunately, no one else was injured.
However, the video did show several fans shouting questions at him. One fan asked if he had any plans to apologize to the pop star over what happened in Las Vegas, but he did not answer and continued to make his way to the exit.
“In the past month, I think basketball wasn't even 50% of my schedule. I can't stand it. I know it's a special moment in my life, but I'm glad it's over. I just wanna hoop.”

However, the media attention might have been too much for the 19-year-old to handle. In a video shared by Tomer Azerly on Twitter, Wembanyama states that he wants to "disappear from the media," adding, “In the past month, I think basketball wasn’t even 50% of my schedule. I can’t stand it. I know it’s a special moment in my life, but I’m glad it’s over … I just wanna hoop."
