Actress Daisy Ridley is going to have to put her Jedi skills to work in her new movie!
The "Star Wars" alum has been tapped to star in a "nail-biting" action-thriller called "Cleaner," which features her starring as an ex-soldier turned window cleaner that must jump into action after radical activists take over the building!
'Star Wars' Alum Daisy Ridley Is An Ex-Soldier Turned Window Cleaner In 'Cleaner'
The "Murder on the Orient Express" actress might have to use the Force to save people trapped on a skyscraper in her new movie, "Cleaner." The movie is being developed by "Casino Royale" and "GoldenEye" filmmaker Martin Campbell, as reported by Deadline.
The action-thriller will be set in present-day London and features radical activists taking over an energy company's annual gala in the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe. This build is known as the Shard and contains three hundred people who are now being held hostage in order to expose the corruption of the energy company.
However, the cause is hijacked by a zealous extremist within their own group, who is ready to kill off everyone in the building to send his message. Joey Locke (Dasiy Ridley), an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, is suspended ninety stories up outside the building when the hostage situation takes place.
It's up to Locke to save the hostages trapped inside, take down the killers, and find a way to bring the corruption of the energy company to light and make sure the corrupt leaders face justice.
Filming Is Expected To Start In Late Summer 2023
The picture, which will eventually go to the Cannes market, is being financed and produced by Anton with Sebastien Raybaud and Callum Grant serving as producers. Production on the movie is scheduled to get underway in late summer of this year, with possible filming locations still being discussed. There is no word yet as to whether the movie will actually film at the iconic Shard building.
In a statement, filmmaker Martin Campbell said: “Cleaner is a nail-biting thriller, unique and original in both its characters and its setting. Much of the film takes place on the side of the Shard – hundreds of feet up in the air – and I want the audience to be up there with Joey in a stomach-churning, vertiginous experience. There isn’t a more instinctive and powerful actress than Daisy right now to help us do just that. The majority of my movies have been thrillers and Cleaner is one of the best I’ve ever read.”
Producer Sebastien Raybaud added: “It has always been the intention to make European action-thrillers that are sophisticated, provocative, and fun at the same time. Independent films from our region with heart and identity, but which also provide a unique and accessible proposition for contemporary audiences globally. With Martin and Daisy taking the lead, and a script that is so unpredictable and authentic, we have everything we need to do just that.”
Daisy Ridley has become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. She just wrapped filming her noir thriller "Magpie," which is based on a story that she wrote. She also wrapped filming in two separate projects last year: "The Marsh King's Daughter" and "Young Woman and the Sea."
'Star Wars' Fans Can't Wait To See Daisy Ridley Reprise Her Role As Rey
However, "Star Wars" fans are eager to see her in the next "Star Wars" film, which currently has no title. It will be directed by "Ms. Marvel" filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy with "Peaky Blinders" Steven Knight writing the script after "Lost" creator Damon Lindelof was released from the project.
This new film, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration London, will take place approximately fifteen years after the events of 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker." This movie will focus on Rey trying to rebuild the Jedi Order after the fall of the First Order over a decade before.
Right now, Ridley is the only actress tapped to star in the new film, although many fans are hoping that other fan-favorite characters from the trilogy will make an appearance.
Ridley's new "Star Wars" film currently does not have a title or a release date, but there is a blank space for an untitled "Star Wars" movie in December 2025 on the Disney release calendar, leading many fans to speculate that it will be released then.
