WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert confirmed on Thursday that Griner was on her way to San Antonio, where she reunited with her wife, Cherelle, and her parents. This family reunion comes after Griner was detained in Russian for 10 months after being arrested and imprisoned on drug charges.

Engelbert also spoke about this was a "critical time" for the athlete and her family and that, "we're going to give her the appropriate space and time for that and then follow what Brittney and her family want to do about re-engaging with the WNBA."

Wrote Cherelle in a long post accompanied by a picture collage of her and Brittney, "I'm humbled by their hearts. To care for another, a stranger to some, a friend to someโ€” is humanity in its purest form! As BG and I start our journey to heal our minds, bodies, and spiritsโ€” I wanted to personally say thank you to some of the hands; seen and unseen, that helped make it possible for me to see my wife again!"

She also made sure to speak about another US citizen who was still imprisoned in Russia, Paul Whelan, as she wrote, "I appreciate each and every one of you. Let's continue to use our hands, voices, platforms, and resources to bring Paul [Whelan] and all Americans home. All families deserve to be whole! Love, Cherelle Griner."

Meanwhile, Twitter is all praise for Cherelle:
