Kaling Is Celebrating The Show’s 10 Year Anniversary
“This Sunday marks the 10 year (!!!) anniversary of the premiere of The Mindy Project,” she started the caption. “I love this show so much. The cast, crew and writers room remain some of my favorite and most important people in my life today.” Her caption went on to explain her thoughts behind the show she created. “I wanted to play a woman who was basically a good person, but also very insane, and had tons of stuff she needed to work on. Coming from The Office, I wanted the show to be packed with jokes, but also, like You’ve Got Mail or When Harry Met Sally, really romantic and made you want to live in New York City.”
The actress and writer continued her caption explaining her wardrobe choices on the show. “In addition, I wanted to wear head-to-toe amazing designer fits even though I wasn’t (and still am not) a size 2,” she said. “I think we accomplished that!” She also explained that it was “the most fun six years (117 episodes!) of my life!” To honor the fun years filming the series, Kaling said she will be sharing some of her favorite scenes from the show all week and wants to hear from fans as well. “And…I want to see YOUR favorite scenes from the show, so comment them below or share and tag me, and let’s see if we can compile them for later this week!,” she finished her caption.
Kaling Dedicated An Instagram Post To “One Of The Funniest People Alive”
The actress posted an update to her original anniversary post that’s dedicated to actor Ike Barinholtz who played the character of Morgan on the show. Included in the carousel of photos and videos featuring the two friends was a caption explaining what it was like working with Barinholtz. “One of the greatest joys of being on The Mindy Project was acting with my dear friend @ikebarinholtz. He’s one of the funniest people alive and I can’t think of a more loved person on set,” she wrote. “So few actors are such committed artists that they can completely expel all vanity to be funny and he is one of those people. He is just the real deal in every way and I love him so much. I’ve spent so many hours on studio stages with Ike and I hope to spend many thousands more. What’s your favorite Morgan moment from @mindyprojecthulu?”
“The Mindy Project” Premiered in 2012 And Continued To 2017
“The Mindy Project” premiered on Fox in 2012 and ran for three seasons on the network before Hulu picked it up. It continued on Hulu for three more seasons before the finale in 2017. The show was centered around Kaling’s character, Mindy Lahiri, an OB/GYN in New York City, as well as her colleagues at the doctor’s office.
Kaling Reminisced About “The Gang At Shulman And Associates”
Last September, Kaling shared a throwback pic of the show’s cast on Instagram captioned, “I found this in my favorites in my pics. The gang from Shulman and Associates! We are missing @bethgrantactor and @adam.pally and Chris, but I love these conference room scenes so much. Ed was usually running a meeting and we kept interrupting. Man I miss these guys. ❤️”
Many of her followers talked about also missing the show. “We want the mindy project back,” “I miss u guys too!!! Mindy project is iconic ❤️❤️❤️,” “I have just stumbled upon The Mindy Project and it’s the first time in my life that I have binge watched a TV show! I am obsessed, currently in season 3 and don’t want it to end soon. Truly, you are such a talented and funny woman!!,” “I watch this show over and over and over! It gets funnier every time. BRING IT BACK!!! ❤️🔥❤️,” and many other positive sentiments filled the comment section.
Life After “The Mindy Project”
After “The Mindy Project,” Kaling worked on many other films and television shows. She worked alongside Matt Warburton to create a television series adaptation of the popular comedy movie “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” The show had one season on Hulu in 2019 in which Kaling helped write and produce every episode.
She also created the Netflix hit show, “Never Have I Ever.” The show is loosely based on her own experiences growing up as a first-generation Indian American teenage girl. Kaling also wrote and produced the show that premiered season 1 in April 2020, season 2 in July 2021 and season 3 last month. It was recently announced that there will be a season 4 released in 2023.
