B.J. Novak Takes Mindy Kaling and Her Daughter Stargazing

There's nothing quite like spending some time staring at the twinkling stars in the sky, and actor B.J. Novak wanted to share that experience with his bestie and goddaughter. Novak took Mindy Kaling and her daughter Katherine, 4, to the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles for a fun and educational night of stargazing over the weekend.

Kaling posted some starry snaps on her Instagram page captioned, "My four year old had the best night of her life at our star party + Saturn spotting at @griffithobservatory! We kept her up way past her bedtime and it was worth it, even though it was cloudy last night. Thank you @bjnovak for sharing your passion for astronomy and for @orionbearastronomy and @griffithobservatory for a spectacular night!"

Kaling's adorable daughter even dressed for the occasion wearing star-covered pants. In one photo, Novak is holding Katherine as she points to the sky, and in the background, the lights of city can be seen shining brightly.  In another photo in the carousel of pics, Katherine is looking through a telescope.

Other photos in the post showed Kaling by a huge telescope, a selfie of her with the city lights as the backdrop, and a few shots of the beautiful Griffith Observatory grounds. Comments on the post included,

Novak is godfather to both Katherine and her little brother Spencer, 1. "The Office" star has not revealed who the father of her children is but addressed the rumors that have been going around that Novak is the father. "It doesn't bother me. He's the godparent to both my kids - and they have such a great relationship - and so far [the rumors haven't] affected my happiness at all, it hasn't affected my kids or B.J.," she recently told Marie Claire. "I'm the only parent my kids have."

"The Mindy Project" creator and actress has been open about her decision to become a single mom in her late thirties. "I waited until I had the means and that made all the difference," she said. "The choice to have a child - by yourself, on your own terms - it was the best part of my life...It's the thing that I hope women feel confident doing by themselves."

Kaling, who is well known for her role on the NBC comedy "The Office," hasn't watched the show since it ended in 2013. She not only played the role of Kelly Kapoor, but was also a writer for 26 episodes, director of two, and co-executive producer. Because her kids are still so young and growing up during the pandemic means not really being exposed to their mom in the public eye. Kaling is excited to one day share her experiences with fame and her time on "The Office" with her daughter. "My hope is that she'll be 12 or 13, and kids will be talking about it at school, and then she'll want to watch it and I can show it to her," she explained.
