The 89-year-old has never hosted the iconic sketch comedy show. If the legendary comedian does host ‘SNL,’ she will be the oldest female to host the show.

Betty White currently holds the title. White was 88-years-old when she hosted the show in 2010.

The Blast exclusively learned that the head honcho of the show, Lorne Michaels,  has heard the social media cries to get Burnett on the show.

A source close to ‘SNL’ told us, “It is still early to see if Carol will host and or be asked to host. But if the trend continues, as it did for Betty White, Lorne and the show will absolutely look to make it happen.”

While Lorne and the show are game to bring her on, we have to remember that Burnett has to also agree to be a part of the show.

“People also have to remember that it is a two-way street, and Carol would actually want to do it herself,” the source continued. “As of right now, there is a chance but nothing at all definite and set in stone.”

The Blast recently reported on Twitter absolutely buzzing about Burnett hosting “Saturday Night Live.”

On August 29th, the comedian’s name was trending and many believed it was due to some very sad news.

Her name began trending because the official Twitter account for “Saturday Night Live” issued a social media wide call to action from fans.

The tweet read, “Who do you want to host SNL? Let us know in the replies.”

As you can tell where this is going, an overwhelming amount of people replied with “Carol Burnett.”

This led many to believe something terribly wrong had happened.

“Carol Burnett was trending and y’all scared the hell outta me. They just want her to host SNL. How in the world has this comedic genius not been given this platform,” a fan tweeted.

“Seeing Carrol Burnett trending and it’s because people want her to host SNL. Shew. Was going to have a bit of a sad moment there,” one worried fan wrote.

When Carol Started Trending, Many Thought She Passed Away

One person said they nearly had a heart attack after seeing her name trending.

Fortunately, Burnett’s name was trending for the exact opposite reason.

The 89-year-old icon is alive and well!

Comedian Patton Oswalt responded, “Guys, Carol Burnett. Come ON. Please?

Several people agreed with Oswalt’s plea to ‘SNL.’

“Carol Burnett!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!”

“Who agrees, it’s way past time for Carol Burnett to host SNL? Come on Carol, do it.”

This fan reassured Twitter, “Carol Burnett is trending, but fear not. She’s alive and well.”

Interestingly enough, many were appalled that Burnett had never hosted the sketch comedy show.

One even demanded that Burnett get the “Betty White level of respect.”

“Carol Burnett. She needs the Betty White level of respect… such an important comedy legend!!!” an adamant fan responded to ‘SNL.’

White hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2010 and actually turned down three different hosting offers prior to making her grand debut.

In her book, “If You Ask Me,” she wrote how she feared she’d be “like a fish out of water on such a New York-oriented show.”

So many people wanted White to host the show that an actual campaign was created on Facebook.

From January to March 2010, the campaign garnered half a million votes to have her on as a host, which she noted in her book.

The fanfare was enough for White to let down her guard and finally take the stage “live from New York.”

Prior to her December 31, 2021 death, the ‘Golden Girls’ actress trended a great deal on Twitter.

Given her old age (99) and the fact her name trended so often, many of her fans had the absolute s**t scared out of them.

Anytime White trended, the internet went into a full-blown meltdown.

“Saturday Night Live” has yet to announce their line-up of guest hosts for the upcoming season.
