It's been two years this July, that Elvis Presley's grandson, Benjamin Keough died by his hand. His mother, Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of Elvis, took to Instagram to show how she was eternally bound to her son even though he was no longer on this Earth.
With "Elvis" out and making waves, the Presley family is in media focus again, although it's a bittersweet time for them, as they remember Benjamin two years after his death.
Benjamin Keough Was Lisa Marie Presley's Second Born
It's a strange but true thought, had Benjamin Keough been alive today, he might have played Elvis in the eponymous Baz Luhrmann movie instead of Austin Butler. Keough bore a startling resemblance to his grandfather, and yet his was Elvis' shadow that threw him into depression, as the pressure to be as great as the King got to him. Plus, his mother, Lisa Marie Presley, is an established singer in her own right as well as the sole heir to the millions-something Presley fortune.
Keough was born in Lisa Marie's first marriage, to touring musician Danny Keough. Benjamin also had an older sister, actress Riley Keough known for her roles in "The Runaways" and "The Good Doctor."
Despite being offered a $5 million contract, Benjamin was never able to release any music. His parent's divorce and then Lisa Marie's failed marriage with Michael Jackson, Nicolas Cage, and finally Michael Lockwood, the latter of which resulted in twin girls, also added to his depression. Substance abuse and the church of Scientology further complicated matters.
Finally, on July 12, 2020, Keough shot himself while at a party. The neighbors alleged that they heard someone scream “don’t do it” before hearing a blast. Keough shot himself with the shotgun in his mouth. He was only 27.
Riley Keough Remembers Her Brother
Losing someone is always hard, and the loss of her younger brother hit Riley Keough very hard. She later shared how she could barely get out of bed after Benjamin passed.
She paid a tribute to Benjamin by posting a picture of them together at her wedding, writing, "Not an hour goes by where I don’t think of you and miss you. It’s been two years today since you left and I still can’t believe you’re not here. You are so loved my Ben Ben."
Many friends, family members, and fans commiserated with Riley, with Kim Kardashian sending a black heart emoji, while Linda Thompson, who dated Elvis, wrote, "I remember you both when you were little… You will always be together in spirit… My heart is with you and your mom."
Riley had also spoken about how it was difficult to accept the suicide of her brother, saying, "It's very complicated for our minds to put that somewhere because it's so outrageous. If I'm going through a breakup, I know what to do with that and where to file it in my mind, but the suicide of your brother? Where do you put that? How does that integrate? It just doesn't."
She also posted a tribute to her "Ben Ben" on his birthday in October last year.

Lisa Marie Presley Shares Eternal Bond With Benjamin
To say that Benjamin's mom, Lisa Marie Presley was shattered by his death was perhaps an understatement. On his birthday last year, she wrote a long and evocative tribute, "I worshipped the ground you walked on, on this earth, and now in Heaven. My heart and soul went with you. The depth of the pain is suffocating and bottomless without you every moment of every day. I will never be the same.
Please wait for me my love, and hold my hand while I stay to continue to protect and raise your little sisters and to be here for Riley. I know you would want that. Happy Birthday my sweet sweet Boy. You were much too good for this world."
And now, on the second anniversary of Benjamin's death, Lisa Marie revealed a tattoo that bound mother and son together, with both wearing a Celtic knot on their foot that she claims has them in an eternal bond.

But she has started smiling again, a little at least, as she mentioned in her post when she met Austin Butler.
