Chelsea Handler dipped her foot in the influencer pool and got pushed all the way in. Whether she likes it or not. The comedian is claiming her hand is being forced to file a lawsuit against lingerie company ThirdLove because they allegedly breached their contract.
Chelsea Handler Didn’t Get paid
The 47-year-old filed docs with the Superior Court of California on Thursday claiming that ThirdLove didn’t “fairly compensate her for an advertising campaign it hired her to spearhead.”
Handler is referring to a deal that was brokered between herself and the lingerie company back in 2021. The brand sought out Handler noting that they “loved [Handler’s] unique, active, body-positive image and brand.”
The compensation was over a million dollars. “$1,060,000, plus expenses,” to be exact. Handler is annoyed because of all the time and energy she put into this partnership only to have it break down.
Chelsea Hander Dropped Pounds For The Partnership
The body-positive actress and her lawyers are pointed out that Handler has already done an awful lot and is holding up her end of the bargain. The “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea” began a “specialized exercise regimen” and met with ThirdLove executives on several occasions before an upcoming shoot that was supposed to take place in January 2022.
The exact date of the shoot was Jan. 26. We know this because Handler flew out to Whistler, Canada “on her own dime” only to be met with a canceled shoot and a lot of wasted time.
The Jokes On Chelsea Handler
The comedian isn’t used to being the butt of the joke but it looks like everyone was in on this scheme except for her. “Handler believes and is informed that despite the representations made to her, the ThirdLove creative team in charge of her campaign had never obtained approval from its Board of Directors,” shared her legal team. That’s weird.
Handler’s lawyers went on to point out that “when the Board learned of the campaign at the eleventh hour, it instructed ThirdLove’s officers to terminate the parties’ Agreement.” Is anyone else wondering how an entire deal can go down with the approval of the higher-ups? Where did these contracts come from?
Chelsea Handler Wants Her Money Back!
After the fast fashion lingerie brand failed to follow through with their makeshift photoshoot, they dropped another bombshell on Handler and her team; they won’t be compensating her for the canceled shoot… okay that’s ridiculous but technically she didn’t do any work yet, right?
But, the boldness of it all to not compensate the comedian for the flight she had to pay for, you’re asking to be sued. Despite “repeated requests” to ThirdLove, the company didn’t cooperate and now they are in court duking it out.
Chelsea is asking for more than $1.5 million in damages.
Chelsea Handler Is Also Suing On The Principal Of It All
The actress always has time to be a little petty. That being said, in true form, she is also suing for promissory estoppel. Essentially sticking it to the company for reneging on their contract. Handler’s attorneys believe it is necessary to make a point.
ThirdLove has not responded yet but Handler and her lawyers are not the least bit concerned. “We think the complaint speaks for itself. Nothing else from us at this time.”
