Nick and Vannesa Lachey are one of those couples in Hollywood who have managed to be unfazed by toxicity and drama, making them the perfect Hollywood couple.

The pair began to date in 2006, and after a brief breakup, the Lacheys have dedicated themselves to staying true and transparent as they create and build their beautiful family of three children.

In the first episode of "Ultimatum," Vanessa opened up about how Nick's past romantic experience started the relationship on a rough patch.

"He was literally in a very public marriage and a very public divorce, and I had to go through all that shit very publicly, and it was very hard for us," Vanessa admitted. "It wasn't until he thought, 'I'm letting it go,' and I said, 'I'm letting it go,' and we were really committed to each other."

She continued, "We fell deeper and harder than we ever could," she added, and Nick confirmed, saying, "I think we have perspective."

The Lacheys Took A Break In Their Relationship To See Other People

The pair's new show, "The Ultimatum," followed a group of couples who decided to put their love to test. Nick and Vanessa Lachey also had a similar experience during their short split.

"We actually, if I'm being completely candid and transparent, we took a break," said Vanessa. She claimed that they both saw other people while they took a break but eventually realized that getting out of their own way would make them "amazing together."

She continued, "But it took seeing somebody else and me realizing, I don't mind the things that I thought bugged me or were holding me back."

The pair were married from 2002 through 2006. They were famous for being the "fairytale" couple; this was evidenced by their romantic moments in their MTV reality show, "Newlyweds."

Yet, as their marriage progressed, it became markedly worse. Simpson eventually filed for divorce in 2005, and their split was finalized the year after.

As revealed by Jessica a decade later in her tell-tale memoir, their relationship wasn't as picture-perfect as they made it up to be. And while many assumed that the cause of their divorce was the reality show, Simpson admitted that that wasn't the case.

"Nick and I were very great at being together publicly and on-camera. We were best at our relationship when we were singing together. I felt like we were at home in that place," she continued. "But as far as doing the reality show, we just kind of had fun with it until the end – until we started having marital problems."

Additionally, she revealed she had an emotional attachment with her "Duke of Hazzard" co-star, which felt worse than having sex.

"After I actually had sex, I understood that the emotional part was what mattered. And Johnny and I had that, which seemed far more of a betrayal to my marriage than sex," she said via HarpersBazaar.

She mentioned that she didn't regret her marriage; she, however, regrets never signing a prenup. She added in an interview on the Dr. Oz show, via People, that she was upset with the idea when her husband brought it up. "I was like, 'We're going to be together for the rest of our lives. We're saying our vows to God in front of our family and friends. Like, this is never gonna end.' And, we didn't sign a prenup."

The pair exudes a paragon of stability in an industry where relationships are not famous for lasting long.

While on the "The Bellas" podcast in 2020, Vanessa shared that one of the key ingredients to sustaining their marriage was making time for each other and having sex in the shower.

She said, "I'm in the shower, and I'm like, 'I have a full day. You have a full day. It's either now or never. The kids are at school. It happens, and then later that night, if you get like the cherry on top, great. But if not, we already did shower sex."
