The ‘Golden Girls’ are having a REVIVAL moment this year.
Okay… let’s be honest, “The Golden Girls” have ALWAYS been a moment ever since they hit TV screens in the 1980’s.
But this year seems different.
In the months leading up to what would’ve been Betty White’s 100th birthday and the days following her sudden passing, anywhere you go online, you’re sure to see chatter of either White or the iconic TV show.
And you better not get sick of it, because here’s some new ‘GG’ news.
The scripted TV show is being turned into a children’s book!
Talk about the BEST kind of history class anyone could offer.
However, Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia did get up to some naughty and risqué things, which could lead some adults to shield their children from watching it.
Now, parents don’t have to worry about the rating of the show, because a “Golden Girls” children’s book is being written.
The book titled, “Goodnight, Girls,” is set to be released on June 28, 2022!
The book’s description reads, “Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose are having a sleepover! And, of course, they are having too much fun to go to sleep.”
The book promises to have written cameos from Stan Zbornak, Dorothy’s ex-husband, Miles Webber, Rose’s boyfriend, and plenty of cheesecake.
Fortunately for Blanche, she kept men things moving in her love life.
The cover of the book is a treasure trove of nods to the beloved sitcom including Sophia’s wicker purse, Blanche’s eye mask, Dorothy’s disgruntled face, and Rose’s teddy bear.
Even the tropical wall paper and official title font is included on the book cover.
This children’s book is sure to be the BEST purchase you’ve made to date.
“The Golden Girls” has been such an iconic and long-lasting show, even after it’s run on-air, due to the topics they tackled.
The timeless comedy which starred Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty aired on NBC from 1985-1992, and was very progressive for its time.
‘Golden Girls’ portrayed that life, sex, confidence, and happiness can happen at ANY age. It taught audiences that there is no age limit on living your absolute best life.
It also imparted on viewers the value and importance of friendship.
Life is circumstantial with things coming and going, but those who love you most will be with you forever.
The Blast previously reported on how “The Golden Girls” will be honored with their very first convention called, “Golden-Con.”
This is the first of its kind.
Back in December, we reported the exciting news!
“Golden-Con” and will go down April 22 through April 24 in Chicago, IL.
The events include but are not limited to, a vendor’s market, live parody shows, a costume parade, and trivia. There will also be a Rust Anchor pop-up bar.
Event organizers promise to have appearances by “guest stars, producers, and others directly connected to the show.”
At the time of the announcement, White was the only living cast member, and it was rumored she *may* make an appearance.
The convention’s website states: “Picture it! Chicago, April 2022! Friends, pals and confidants–get ready to laugh your way through a first-of-its-kind, weekend-long classic TV comedy fan gathering! Golden Con: Thank You For Being a Fan will take place from April 22 to April 24 at Chicago’s historic Navy Pier. Fans and Super-Fans are gathering together for a fun-filled weekend to celebrate TV’s most revered comedy with laughter and friendship, and perhaps some cheesecake.”
There is a plethora of fun to be had by all.
Sadly, White passed away on December 31 in her sleep at her home in Brentwood, CA. She was just 18 days away from her 100th birthday.
She issued a sweet message to fans just 11 days before her death.
In a video message White said, “I just want to thank you all for your love and support over the years. Thank you so much, and stick around!”
White has been commemorated in a multitude of ways, but younger generations will really get to know who she is.
The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore created the Betty White patch in honor of the late actress.
The GSJS has acknowledged “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” star’s various contributions to the world by offering a nationwide program that allows Girl Scouts to earn the actress’ commemorative patch.
This heartwarming tribute came as part of the organization’s Amazing Woman of the Month series, which the staffer Stacy Petti created to motivate others with the world’s greatest female icons.
