‘Dance Moms’ star Abby Lee Miller is suing a Los Angeles hotel for over $20 million, claiming a 300-p0und bathroom door crashed on top of her head while sitting in her wheelchair.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Miller filed a lawsuit against Hampton Inn and Suites after an alleged horrible experience inside the hotel’s Santa Monica location. The reality star claims she was discriminated against and denied full access to the enjoyment of the hotel, due to the fact she is confined to a motorized wheelchair. Plus, the situation caused “a serious and traumatic injury to her head and shoulder for which she continues to receive treatment.”
As you know, Miller is battling a rare form of cancer called ‘Burkitt Lymphoma’ which caused a severe spinal cord injury, rendering her paraplegic. At this point, she is confined to an electric power wheelchair.
‘Dance Moms’ Star Claims 300-Pound Bathroom Door Crashed On Her Head
On March 26, 2020, Abby checked into the Hampton Inn in Santa Monica, claiming she had trouble getting the proper room for someone with disabilities. It appears she stayed at the hotel for a lengthy period of tie. During the stay, the reality star claims the hotel staff moved her location due to another “VIP” coming to visit the hotel. In August of 2020,
Miller claims she wheeled into her bathroom to wash her hands in the sink. “When leaving the bathroom, the back left wheel on her wheelchair got caught under the sliding bathroom door. As [she] attempted to free her wheel from under the door, the approximately 300+ pound door fell directly onto [her] left shoulder and hit her head,” the lawsuit states.
Abby Lee Miller Claims She Was Trapped Underneath Door For 10 Minutes!
It continued, “The fallen door pinned [Miller] to her wheelchair and trapped her in the doorway where she remained for approximately six to twelve minutes screaming for help.” Adding, “When other hotel guests heard her cries for help, they did not help, rather they summoned hotel staff. It took two hotel staff to life the door off her dead and upper body.”
The reality star was rushed by ambulance to a local hospital and claims she is still “undergoing physical therapy for the injuries” from the accident. She claims the injuries are causing delays in her healing from the unrelated cancer surgery.
Abby claims the bathroom accident isn’t the only issue she had at the Santa Monica hotel.
‘Dance Moms’ Star Claims L.A. Hotel Had Issues For Someone With Disabilities
The ‘Dance Moms’ star alleges the establishment had huge problems with accessibility and structure for someone with disabilities. For instance, Abby claims she had to “bribe” staff to help with issues like getting new towels when the shower leaked on the floor. Abby says she was “not able to close the shower curtain all the way because she could not reach it when she was sitting in the shower chair.” She continued, “as a result of the open shower curtain, every time she took a shower, water spilled all over the tile bathroom floor. This caused a dangerous situation for [Abby] as she could ship, or her wheelchair could slip on the water-covered tiles.”
Again, the reality star claims she had to “bribe/tip” to get staff to help her pick up the wet towels used to sop up the floor and replace them with dry ones.
Abby Lee Miller Is Suing Hampton Inn for Over $20 Million
Shockingly, ALM is suing the hotel for “false imprisonment” after having trouble driving her wheelchair down the hotel hallways due to housekeeping carts blocking the way. The reality star claims she was confined to her room on many occasions, due to the problem.
In the end, the ‘Dance Moms’ star is suing the Hampton Inn for over $20 Million.
