It's the start of a new week, and Katy Perry already has two incredible milestones to celebrate. The award-winning singer turned 37 today, and she is also the latest celebrity to join the GAP family.
The birthday girl starred in the fashion brand's latest holiday commercial for their All Together Now campaign in which the "Roar" singer performed her rendition of the iconic Beatles' track, "All You Need Is Love."
The Holiday Commercial
The minute-long ad was uploaded on the brand's YouTube channel, and it captured Perry rocking various Gap outfits as she went about her morning routine while singing the famous 1967 song.
The commercial's highlight showed the "Dark Horse" crooner strumming a guitar in a pair of cozy bubblegum-colored sweatpants paired with a matching turtleneck, pink cap, and a red scarf.
As the songstress performed, she was surrounded by young couples in colorful GAP clothing, who danced, kissed, and celebrated the holiday as it snowed around them.
A Dream Come True
As reported by PEOPLE, the campaign was a magical moment and a dream come true for the 37-year-old. She noted that she had always wanted to make the brand's celebrity list.
The "Hot N Cold" singer explained to the news outlet that she had been mesmerized by the famous musicians who performed for GAP while working at the brand's store in Santa Barbara.
At the time, the 16-year-old vowed to make the iconic playlist, a dream that came to fruition 21 years later. Perry described the experience as "a rite of passage" and "a bucket list moment."
The mother-of-one was elated to cover a Beatles song, a job she took seriously during the recording session as the last thing she wanted was to ruin the masterpiece. In her words,
"You don't want to mess up a Beatles song and also once you put it out on streaming it just exists forever. That's just tragic. So I took my time with it."
For each stream of the singer's Beatles cover on Spotify, the fashion brand will donate $1 to the birthday girl's chosen non-profit organization, Baby2Baby. They are known for giving less fortunate children basic amenities.
A Queen Without A Grammy
The Grammys recognizes the best talents in the music/entertainment industry. However, The Blast has previously discussed the absence of one of these prestigious trophies in Perry's life.
The "Last Friday Night" singer had various accolades, including 10 BMI Awards, 4 Guinness World Records, 5 MTV Video Music Awards, and more. Nevertheless, she hasn't been acknowledged by the Grammys.
During an interview for Variety's "2021 Power of Women" issue, "The Smurfs" star revealed that she had been nominated 13 times for the award, and despite never winning, The artist had numbers to back her claim as a successful musician.
On the topic of what made her feel empowered, the UNICEF ambassador's achievements were far from the answer. The 37-year-old stated that her strength came from prioritizing her "day-to-day mental health" and ensuring her happiness.
