Singer Ray J is asking the court to order joint custody of his children with ex-wife Princess Love, in the former couple's ongoing divorce.
According to legal documents, obtained by The Blast, Ray J (real name: Willie Ray Norwood Jr.) is asking a judge to order his famous ex-wife to share joint custody of their two children, 3-year-old Melody, and 1-year-old Epik. According to the filing, the couple entered into a prenuptial agreement, which spells out exactly what will be paid by Ray J to Princess.
It's possible the amount is zero, but an exact payment structure isn't included in the divorce filing. But, the couple shares the two children and the singer will be responsible for paying child support to his ex-wife. For those of you who haven't been through this process, the amount of support is normally based on a percentage of the person's annual income. A system is used to offset any income made by the other party, and whoever makes more money -- is ordered to pay support. As you know, Ray J is a very wealthy entertainer and will most likely be paying child support.
Ray J Asks The Court To Terminate Ability To Award Spousal Support
In the filing, Ray J is asking for the court to order "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects" his property -- along with "earnings and accumulations before the marriage, during the marriage, and from and after the date of separation." Also, the singer claims there are "additional separate property assets and obligations of each party as mandated by their Prenuptial Agreement. To be clear, this normally includes things like music royalties and property.
As we reported, this is the THIRD time the couple has filed for divorce, after dismissing the previous cases and reconciling.
Ray J & Princess Love Divorcing For The Third Time!
The latest filing was interesting timing considering Ray J was in a Florida hospital recovering from pneumonia. At the time, Ray believed he had contracted COVID-19, and the singer's manager revealed he believed he was going to die from the ailment. The 40-year-old star says the experience was "frightening" adding, "I thought it was over. I started praying and knew God is good so I just kept praying."
In the hospital, Ray J was given "five COVID tests, all of which came back negative." But, the 'One Wish' singer says he is still having trouble breathing and doctors used oxygen to help him.
The current divorce is the third case in the Los Angeles County Courts system. In May of 2020, Princess Love filed to end the couple's marriage -- but a few months later had a change of heart -- and dismissed the case. In September, Ray J initiated a second divorce case, but five months later dropped the case. It appears the two 'Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood' stars kept getting back together.
For now, it appears this one is going to stick, and Ray J is asking the court to step in and help manage the custody of their children and the finances in their ongoing divorce.
