A Massive Hit For Netflix

Netflix's Tiger King could be the definitive television show of 2020: an absolutely chaotic train wreck that is impossible to look away from. It's difficult to explain quite why people are so fascinated by Joe Exotic, but despite his many (many, so many) crimes, people are obsessed with the man, the myth, the legend.

Tiger King is ruling culture in such a way that in the middle of a coronavirus pandemic briefing, a journalist asked President Trump would be willing to pardon Joe Exotic, who is currently serving a 22 year sentence in prison. Trump joked that he would "take a look."

A New Episode Is On The Way

Netflix is not throwing away their shot in order to capitalize on Tiger King mania, announcing that they're releasing an 8th episode on Sunday April 12th, an "after show" episode hosted by Community star Joel McHale. Titled The Tiger King And I, the episode will feature interviews with John Reinke, Joshua Dial, John Finlay, Saff, Erik Cowie, Rich Kirkman, and Jeff and Lauren Lowe.

These interviews will focus on updating viewers on their lives now that the show has come out and how things have changed for them since this new level of exposure.

What's Going On With Joe Exotic

Tiger King fans will notice that two notable players are missing from that list: Joe Exotic himself and his nemesis, Carole Baskin. Exotic is currently in prison -- but does NOT have coronavirus -- and in a recent interview, he admitted that he was "ashamed."

"Go sit in a cage with your animals for a week. I mean, when I left the zoo and I sent my chimpanzees to the sanctuary in Florida, and imagined what my chimpanzees went through for 18 years...I'm ashamed of myself."

He also admitted that he was "done with the Carole Baskin saga."

"It's now time to turn the tables, and Joe get out of jail a free man and exonerated from all these charges."

Plus, he wishes that he could enjoy the fame that he's receiving after Tiger King.

"You know, it would be nice if I could actuallly see me being famous out there, but I've seen the same four walls for a year and a half now."

Carole Baskin Is Not Involved

It shouldn't be a surprise to fans that Baskin isn't involved after her documented frustration with the series, calling it "salacious and sensational." Baskin was frustrated that the producers of Tiger King chose to focus on the disappearance of her husband instead of her work with Big Cat Rescue.

Her representative told Entertainment Weekly:

"We have not been approached about a new episode and would not participate if asked."

Well that's that, you cool cats and kittens. Will you be tuning in for Sunday's special episode?
