Robin Williams' Son Remembers Father's 'Suffering' On Late Comedian's Bday

On what would have been Robin Williams' 68th birthday, his son his reflecting on the internal demons his famous father battled that unfortunately led to his demise.

36-year-old Zak Williams sat down with Good Morning Britain last week in the days leading up to the "Mrs Doubtfire' star's birthday of July 21.


Zak said the entire ordeal was "heartbreaking," because his father would still go out and perform because he "wanted to share laughter with the world," even though he was "suffering and struggling" with depression.

"I admired him and loved him," Zak said, while explaining that sharing his father with the rest of the world was difficult.

Zak says he "admired and loved" his father, but admitted the feeling of helplessness because "he wasn't always open to sharing his personal pain and struggle," adding that, "we noticed that over a period of time."


Zak also revealed that his father's memory will live on through his 2-month old son.

Zak and his fiancee, Olivia, welcomed their first child together on May 22, and he paid tribute to the late comedian by naming his son McLaurin Clement Williams -- McLaurin was Robin's middle name.

Zak’s sister Zelda Williams has been open on social media about how she has dealt with losing their famous father at such a young age.


Last year, before what would have been Robin's 67th birthday, Zelda shared a photo of the two of them, along with a caption explaining her feelings.

“Everyone who has dealt with loss knows the pain of certain anniversaries, moments full of memory that come round like clockwork and usurp all others, no matter how hard you may try to prepare for or avoid them," she wrote.

Robin Williams died by suicide on August 11, 2014 at the age of 63.
