In a time where most awards shows are opting to go hostless, the Globes amongst them, that won't be the case on January 5, 2020. However, Gervais swears that his fifth time will also be his last.

This morning, the Globes' official Twitter broke the news with the following: "He takes the fifth! @rickygervais will resume hosting duties for a record fifth time at the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 5, 2020, from The Beverly Hills Hilton in Beverly Hills, California!"

In a statement released by Gervais, "they've made me an offer I can't refuse. But this is the very last time I'm doing this, which could make for a fun evening."

Obviously, Gervais is no stranger to the awards show, having hosted three consecutive years (2010, 2011, 2012) and then again in 2016. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted in between his stints. Gervais also said back then he was finished hosting. But there's no denying what Gervais brings to the gig.

On Gervais, NBC Entertainment Chairman Paul Telegdy had to say; "There is always a palpable electricity in the room when Ricky takes the Globes stage. His return as master of the ceremonies at the Golden Globes is much anticipated. It is sure to make for an unexpected evening. We can't wait to see what he has up his sleeve."

Expect the unexpected indeed. Gervais is no stranger to controversy. In a direct quote, "At the end of the day, I'm going to keep saying what I want, and there's nothing anyone can do about it until it's against the law." The comedian is unapologetically outspoken and an active Twitter user.

He's also released numerous stand-up specials, voiced characters in shows like BoJack Horseman, Family Guy, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Simpsons and more. He is also a major animal rights activist.
