Lindsey Vonn wanted one last shot at glory on the mountain, but admits that she physically is unable to keep competing.
Vonn just announced her retirement, and said it was the "hardest decision of my life, but I have accepted that I cannot continue ski racing."
Plagued with injuries throughout her career, Vonn said she didn't want her storyline to be about constantly getting hurt. She admitted that a surgery this past spring was kept under wraps.
She wanted to win a medal in the next winter Olympics, but says, "My body is broken beyond repair and it isn't letting me have the final season I dreamed of."
The women's all-time leader in World Cup wins, with 82, leaves an illustrious career of 3 Olympic medals and 7 World Championships.
Vonn says next week's World Championships in Sweden will be the final races of her career.
