The brother of one of the victims in a double fatal Aug. 24 boat crash in Canada hopes that whoever is found guilty will “do the time.”
Larry Poltash is the brother of Gary Poltash, 64, who was killed when their boat was hit by another boat that “Shark Tank” star Kevin O’Leary was riding on.
The crash also killed Ontario resident Susanne Brito, 48, who had three kids. She died a couple of days after the crash. Poltash had an adult son and daughter — Larry Poltash called them “absolutely beautiful kids.”
O’Leary’s representative says his wife, Linda, was driving the boat at the time of the crash. The representative also said she passed a DUI test after the crash.
O’Leary has said that the other boat, the larger one, left the scene after the crash.
Regardless of the details, Kevin O’Leary says he’s cooperating with investigators in the crash and released this statement:
“Late Saturday night I was a passenger in a boat that had a tragic collision with another craft that had no navigation lights on and then fled the scene of the accident. I am fully cooperating with authorities.”
“Out of respect for the families who have lost loved ones and to fully support the ongoing investigation, I feel it is inappropriate to make further comments at this time. My thoughts are with all the families affected.”
A spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police released a statement, confirming news of the crash and adding that no charges have been filed so far.
“We can confirm that a collision occurred on Saturday evening at approximately 11:30 p.m. involving two boats on Lake Joseph.”
“No charges have been made in this matter. The investigation is ongoing with our criminal investigations branch. It resulted in two fatalities. One died at the scene and the other died yesterday after succumbing on Tuesday night to her injuries, which were critical.”
The spokesperson also said that three other people were hurt in the crash; they were treated and later released.
