Halsey took to the streets of Los Angeles on Saturday night to protest the injustice brought to light by the murder of George Floyd. However, her peaceful protest didn’t stay peaceful for long.
The “You Should Be Sad” artist shared her experience with her millions of fans on Instagram. Halsey described the insanity from the front lines of the protest that quickly turned into a riot. She made sure to state that the protesters near her did not provoke the police before officers fired rubber bullets into the crowd. Halsey claimed to be struck twice, once by a rubber bullet and once by “shrapnel.”

As we previously mentioned, the star insisted that the police were the ones that disturbed the peace. She began her story with a captivating, black and white image of an LAPD officer dressed in full riot gear.
“We were peaceful, hands up, not moving, not breaching the line,” Halsey wrote.
The situation in Los Angeles mirrored the protests around the country and unfortunately ended up with violence, unbelievable amounts of property damage, injuries, and the destruction of dozens of police vehicles.
As she detailed her protest, the images became increasingly more dramatic, scary, and captivating.
“they opened fire of rubber bullets and tear gas multiple times on us. citizens who were not provoking them,” she continued.
Her image featured dozens of officers with their clubs in hand. The police formed a line to try to keep the thousands of people under control. According to Halsey, they were forced to use non-lethal forms of crowd control. Rubber bullets are no joke even if they are deemed non-lethal.
After listing the LAPD’s methods, she doubled down that the protesters and she were not causing a scene but rather trying to have their voices heard.
“most of us were simply begging them to have empathy. to reconsider. to consider humanity and our nations history and future,” she wrote of another black and white image.
The streets of L.A. were covered with way more graffiti than usual and hundreds of protesters, journalists, and news helicopters documented the wild scene.
She began wrapping up her story by announcing that she personally was on the receiving end of the cop’s non-lethal tactics.
“They opened fire multiple times. I was hit twice. Once by pellets and once by shrapnel. We were gassed repeatedly for hours,” she said.
Despite suffering through gas and minor injuries, she ended her message by stating that she is not done protesting.
“the frontline did not relent. I will be returning,” Halsey declared. “HAVE COURAGE.”
