While the seemingly unlimited information found on the Internet can be extremely useful, it can also be a breeding ground for conspiracy theories. With the death of business man and human trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and the capture of his former partner Ghislaine Maxwell, people online are theorizing over which famous people were in the infamous Epstein flight manifests.
One of the theories that fanatics online have latched onto is that somehow Chrissy Teigen and John Legend were involved with Epstein. Not only are they theorizing on websites like QAnon, but they’re also harassing Teigen about it on Twitter.
One person baited Teigen, and she snapped back tweeting:
“this I don’t get. everyone thinking I’m guilty because I’m defensive. You understand you are calling me a pedophile, correct?”
Teigen went back and deleted thousands of tweets in an attempt to thwart the tide of trolls, and of course people interpreted this social media clean up as her attempting to cover her tracks. One person tweeted “The bigger question for me is ‘Why are people checking to see how many tweets from another person have been deleted?’ Is your time that invaluable????” to which Teigen replied“They’re. LOSERS.”
Teigen expressed her exhaustion and frustration, explaining that she didn’t think the harassment would stop even with Maxwell’s eventual testimony.
“when pedo ghislaine sings like a canary (if she doesn’t die) and we have nothing to do eith this, I know for a fact it won’t go away. They’ll just think of another excuse. It is extremely disheartening. I don’t know how to stop this. i don’t think anyone quite gets it”
This level of targeted harassment has got to be disheartening, and it’s getting to the point that Teigen is even considering leaving Twitter completely.
The harassment over these crackpot conspiracy theories has gotten so intense that Teigen even tweeted that she was considering quitting Twitter altogether. She retweeted a particularly disturbing response, saying:
“If twitter doesn’t do something about this actually scary harassment, I am gonna have to go.”
Teigen did her best to combat the onslaught through blocking, but is still struggling. She wrote:
“I have block chained over one million people, ONE MILLION people today and I am still flooded with sick psychopaths. So please, spare me the ‘just ignore them, they’re just trolls.'”
Could the Queen of Twitter leave the social media platform for good?
If twitter doesn't do something about this *actually scary* harassment, I am gonna have to go. https://t.co/OsR9SPiWA8
