One of the leaders of the hugely successful American retail chain, Nordstrom, is dead weeks after revealing he was battling cancer.
Employees of Nordstrom were notified Wednesday at noon via email that Blake Nordstrom had "unexpectedly" died in Seattle in the early morning at the age of 58.
The email, which The Blast has obtained, says, "We're devastated by this news. Blake was a tremendous leader who personified the heart and soul of Nordstrom and our values."
The note also announces that the executive team will continue to be led by Nordstrom brothers, Pete and Erik, who are "understandably shocked by the sudden loss of their brother."
Memorial plans are expected to be made at a later time.
In December, Nordstrom had announced he was diagnosed with lymphoma, but were optimistic about his treatment options. He had vowed to work through treatment, and had recently notified the company about reducing his scheduled travel as he wanted to remain close to home during the process.
Nordstrom had been in the family business for over 40 years.
