Olivia Rodrigo Could Potentially Lose MILLIONS of Dollars To Taylor Swift & Paramore

You know what they say, “fame comes with a price,” and Olivia Rodrigo is experiencing that first hand.

The “Driver’s License” hitmaker has been embroiled in plagiarism controversy as of late, and it reached its peak just last week.

The Blast previously reported on claims fans have made about Olivia plagiarizing some songs off of her debut album, “Sour,” as well as imagery from other artist’s albums.

Many have said Olivia ripped off Paramore’s 2007 hit, “Misery Business,” when she released, “Good 4 U.”

Just last week, we reported on Paramore getting songwriting credits on “Good 4 U.” More specifically, lead vocalist Hayley Williams and Paramore guitarist, Joshua Farro, got the credits.

According to Billboard, the change was retroactively made to acknowledge an interpolation of the group's 2007 mega popular single, "Misery Business.

According to Songtrust, an interpolation is when a recording is recreated note for note and reflects the original composition, whereas a sample is a snippet of an original song that’s been copied and pasted into an entirely new piece.

Williams celebrated the news on her Instagram Story on August 25.

She reposted Warner Chappell Music’s IG Story showing Olivia’s “Sour” album cover with “Good 4 U” as #1 on the top 40.

The post also included, “A huge shoutout to our writers Hayley Williams & Joshua Farro.”

Williams took this moment to note how WILD it is and captioned it, “our publisher is wildin rn.”

Taylor Swift and co. have ALSO been given writing credits on a couple of Olivia’s songs.

In July, Olivia reportedly added Taylor, Jack Antonoff and St. Vincent to “Déjà vu.” The 18-year-old used an interpolation of Swift’s “Cruel Summer” from her 2019 album, “Lover.”

She also did this with her song “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back.” Olivia interpolated the piano melody of Taylor’s “New Year’s Day.” She credited both TSwift and Antonoff.

Its great Olivia and her label are giving credit where credit is due, but it did cost them a pretty penny.

According to a new report from Billboard, Olivia reportedly shelled out millions to Taylor, Hayley and more after retroactively giving them credits on some of her biggest hits.

According to the report, published on Wednesday, Paramore's Hayley Williams and Joshua Farro will now receive a combined royalty share of 50% for "Good 4 U,” leaving Olivia and her collaborator Daniel Nigro to split the remaining 50%.

As for Taylor and her team of songwriters, they’ll get a combined share of 50% of “Déjà vu” with the singer and Nigro splitting the remainder.

The royalties for "1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back," will be split into thirds among Taylor, Antonoff and Rodrigo, since she wrote the song herself.

Billboard claims that Williams and Farro could be receiving around $1.2 million following the success of "Good 4 U."
