A new exposé claims Donald Trump made a surprising private promise to Joe Biden during a rare post-election Oval Office meeting. In the conversation, the incoming 47th president allegedly assured his predecessor that he would not harm his son, Hunter.
Biden has recently shared sharp criticism of Trump, calling him a “loser” in the latest exchange between the two political rivals. He also touched on a number of his successor’s controversial actions, including the halted demolition of the White House’s East Wing and the saga surrounding the John F. Kennedy Center.
Donald Trump Reportedly Made Rare Hunter Biden Promise
A recently released exposé is shedding light on what reportedly happened when Donald Trump returned to the White House for a rare post-election meeting with Joe Biden in November 2024.
According to “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump” by Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, Trump struck a surprisingly warm tone during the Oval Office sit-down. The unexpected warmth followed years of public attacks on Biden, his family, and his administration.
As reported by People, the book claims that Trump was “solicitous and deferential” during the meeting, praised Biden’s presidency, and allegedly assured him he would not harm Hunter.
Trump reportedly told Biden, “It’s terrible what they’ve put your son through,” without acknowledging his own years of criticism against Hunter and the Biden family.
However, the meeting supposedly took a different turn when Biden tried to brief Trump on major foreign policy matters. Rather than focusing on policy details, Trump reportedly asked about the personalities of world leaders, including Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.
Joe Biden Calls Trump A ‘Loser’ Over D.C. Projects
Speaking as the keynote guest at a recent Democratic Party gala in Hanover, Maryland, Biden launched a scathing attack on Trump, pointing to what he believes has gone wrong with the billionaire’s administration.
Part of his remarks centered on Trump being a “loser” for seemingly prioritizing “vanity projects” over effective leadership, per The Guardian.
Those projects included the planned demolition of the White House’s East Wing to make space for a ballroom, as well as his decision to add his name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The East Wing demolition project is still facing legal scrutiny, while Trump’s name was later removed from the center following a court-ordered decision.
Joe Biden Also Slammed Trump’s Foreign Policy
At one point in his ten-minute speech, Biden also berated Trump over his foreign policy since the start of his administration last year.
Biden specifically cited Trump’s approach toward Russian President Vladimir Putin, arguing that the billionaire has taken a more lenient stance toward the Russian leader despite the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
The former president also blasted Trump for undermining NATO during a period of heightened international tensions, a statement that appeared to reference his successor’s handling of the conflict involving Iran.
To Biden, Trump’s actions have significantly diminished America’s global standing and damaged its relationships with key allies. “He’s diminished our standing in the world more than any president in history has,” Biden told attendees at the event.
Trump Fires Back After Joe Biden’s ‘Loser’ Jab
Hours after Biden’s remarks, Trump appeared to respond with a subtle jab that referenced the ongoing Great American State Fair.
The event is a national exposition celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary and will take place from June 25 to July 10, 2026.
“Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it?” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
He added, “Ask yourself this simple question: “DO YOU THINK THAT OBUMA OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?” THE ANSWER IS NO!”
Trump Posts Image Mocking Joe Biden’s 2024 Loss
Days earlier, Trump also took a swipe at Biden with a digitally created image of the former president wearing a cap reading “I lost to Trump.”
Standing by Biden’s side were Trump’s main political opponents over the years, Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton.
Both women also wore the same cap as Biden and smiled alongside the former president.
Trump also took aim at his predecessor, calling him “Sleepy Joe Biden” and criticizing the Barack Obama administration, in which Biden served as vice president.
Trump claimed his administration had performed far better in carrying out “criminal ICE removals” than the Obama administration, adding that “it’s not even close.”
