NFL analyst Matt Miller faces a long road to recovery after suffering a near-fatal car accident in Missouri.

The crash left Miller with severe injuries and ultimately resulted in the amputation of his left arm to save his life.

Amid the difficult circumstances, stakeholders across the NFL community have expressed support and wished him a speedy recovery ahead of his potential return to covering the 2027 NFL Draft class.

ESPN’s Matt Miller Details His Severe Crash Injuries

In a post on X, Matt Miller revealed that his near-fatal car crash in Missouri was severe enough that he needed to be airlifted to a hospital.

Describing his condition, the ESPN NFL analyst said he felt “incredibly fortunate” to have made the post and acknowledged the extent of his injuries.

“As a result of the accident, I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time,” he wrote.

“Thank you for the overwhelming support, prayers, and kind messages — they have meant so much to me and my family during this time,” he added.

Responding to Miller’s post, ESPN released a heartfelt statement expressing its support for him and reassuring him that his position with the network remains secure.

“ESPN’s thoughts are with Matt Miller & his loved ones,” read the statement from the organization. “We wish him strength in his recovery & look forward to seeing him back at ESPN when he’s ready.”

Miller joined ESPN in 2021 as a contributor covering the NFL Draft and was elevated to a full-time, year-round NFL Draft analyst in 2022.

He made his on-air debut during the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City, providing coverage of Rounds 4–7 on Day 3.

Before his accident, he was a regular presence across ESPN platforms, including “NFL Live,” “SportsCenter,” “Get Up!,” ESPN+ specials, and ESPN Radio, where he delivered scouting evaluations, mock drafts, and analysis of top NFL prospects.

Matt Miller Receives Love From Colleagues

A ton of support also came from several fellow pundits after Miller shared news of his accident on X.

ESPN colleague Ian Rapoport wrote to Miller, “Get well and hang in there!!”

“Best to you in your recovery. So many people are rooting for you and will continue to do so. We are also grateful for the medical professionals who saved your life! Such a scary situation,” said Mike Sando, also a senior writer at ESPN.

“Thank God you are still with us, Matt. Covering you and your family in prayer. Take whatever time you need as you navigate this new set of challenges. We’ll all be here. You are so loved and supported,” Jenna Laine added.

Details Emerge From Miller’s Crash

Miller’s accident reportedly occurred during the early evening hours of June 17 as he was driving a 2023 Ford Bronco eastbound on Missouri Route 96.

According to reports, the SUV crossed the center line and collided with a 2024 International semi-truck.

Authorities have not disclosed which party was at fault in the collision or whether there will be further investigations.

Images from the scene that surfaced online showed the severity of the impact on Miller’s Ford Bronco. The front section of the vehicle appeared almost completely destroyed, while significant damage was also visible along the driver’s side.

Despite the dramatic crash, the driver of the semi-truck, a 28-year-old man, did not suffer any injuries after being checked by emergency medical personnel at the scene.

Injuries like the one suffered by Miller typically require several months of recovery, with the exact timeline depending on how the rehabilitation process progresses.

While no official return date has been announced, Miller suggested he may be back in time to join his colleagues in analyzing the 2027 NFL Draft class.

“I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football, including what should be an exciting 2027 NFL Draft class,” the NFL insider wrote in his X post.
