For Rumer Willis, the fight is not over yet!

Willis just clinched the custody of her three-year-old daughter, Louetta, in her ongoing divorce battle from ex Derek Richard, but there are still some loose ends to fix.

Rumer Willis and her former partner parted ways in 2024 after two years as a couple and welcomed their bundle of joy on April 18, 2023.

Reports from court documents have confirmed that Rumer was granted physical custody of her daughter, and she will continue to share joint legal custody with Derek.

The actress and her baby daddy were also instructed to undergo a custody evaluation according to the ruling. Visitation schedules for Derek were included in the new custody arrangement to guide his parenting time, which will be every other weekend beginning on June 20.

During the visits, one of Rumer’s nannies must be on standby to monitor the situation at the initial stage until they transition to overnight visitation with no monitoring in the coming months. Rumer and her ex must also go in for co-parenting counseling and will communicate through a co-parenting app.

Derek’s attorney, Mike Kretzmer, confirmed to PEOPLE that his team and his client are pleased with the ruling, as it gives him a chance to build a meaningful relationship with his daughter.

The Blast shared earlier in June that Derek pushed back against allegations made by Rumer and his mother, Demi Moore, claiming that he has been unfairly accused and portrayed.

Derek insisted that he has never acted inappropriately towards Rumer, who has chosen to embark on a widespread smear campaign against him in the media. He added that he was also excluded from having a say in whether their daughter appears in content containing adult-themed humor or not.

Derek continued that all his attempts to be a part of his daughter’s life have been met with impossible conditions from Rumer, making him frustrated. The filing also covered Willis’ relocation to Idaho.

Derek stated she originally intended to relocate because of air quality issues after the 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles, but then wanted to make it permanent. Derek also responded to allegations involving drug use and challenged claims that he failed to provide financial support.

In January, Demi had submitted a declaration in court, accusing Derek of exhibiting controlling behavior during his relationship with Rumer, especially when they welcomed her granddaughter.

The actress claimed that during Rumer’s home birthing process, Derek hopped into the tub without asking for permission, making everyone around uncomfortable until Rumer asked him to leave.

Tension eschewed after that and was sustained till days after Louetta’s birth, when visitors came around to meet an unwelcoming Derek in the home.

In Moore’s filing, she recalled Derek confronting Rumer, expressing frustration throughout the process, and they also had issues over childcare, creating suitable living conditions for Louetta.

The unhealthy undertones between the trio culminated in the end of the relationship, as confirmed by Rumer in her own filing, where she cited coercive control and emotional distress.

As stated by The Blast, Rumer vividly remembered when it dawned on her that it was time to walk away from her relationship with Derek, and it happened while celebrating someone else’s love story.

She revealed on a podcast that the emotional turning point came during her best friend’s wedding in 2024, specifically when the couple shared their touching vows. The content of the vows forced Rumer to confront some harsh truths about what she wants for the future in the relationship.

She suddenly realized that despite the efforts she had invested, she may not get the partnership she truly desired from that arrangement. She immediately understood the urgency to put herself first, with the first step being putting the relationship behind her.

In hindsight, she confessed that leaving was not easy, and it took time to get out from that difficult chapter in her life, but her daughter gave her multiple reasons to stick with her decision, and now it was all worth it.

This experience has not changed the actress’ notion about love and partnership, but she will not compromise on the intentional effort and consistency either.
