More than three years after the brutal killings that shocked the nation, the family of one of Bryan Kohberger’s victims says they are still struggling to come to terms with many of the disturbing details surrounding the case.
The family of Kaylee Goncalves sat down for an exclusive interview, revealing they still have questions for the convicted murderer, including why he chose to kill their daughter.
They also shared their satisfaction with reports that Bryan Kohberger has found life in prison to be uncomfortable and revealed their plans to help “hunt killers.”
Kaylee Goncalves’ Mother Wants To Ask ‘Why’ He Killed Her Daughter

The Goncalves family recently shared their grief in an interview with the Daily Mail, describing the lasting impact Kaylee’s murder has had on their lives and the questions that continue to haunt them.
Among those questions that weigh heavily on Kaylee’s mother, Kristi, is why her daughter was targeted.
Because Kohberger pleaded guilty before the case went to trial and remained largely silent throughout sentencing, the family has been left without the explanation they desperately seek.
“I would ask him why,” Kristi told the outlet, admitting this would be the first words she would ask Kohberger if they ever met in person.
“Please, please, please. Do you not think that our family has been through enough?” Kristi also said, echoing the deep hurt that he chose her child to kill.
The Grieving Mother Also Questioned The Violence Of Her Daughter’s Murder

Like the other victims, Kaylee was killed with what investigators believe was a seven-inch Ka-Bar-style military knife, which has never been recovered.
She suffered more than three dozen stab wounds, many of them to vital areas of her body, including her chest and neck.
The brutality of the attack continues to haunt Kristi, who struggles to comprehend how Kohberger was able to carry on with his life after committing such a violent crime.
Kristi asked, “Do you not think what you did to our daughter, when we found out that you stabbed her 38 times with a seven-inch KaBar military model knife, 24 times to her face, to her head, 11 times to her chest and neck, and three defensive wounds as she sat up in that bed, and she fought for her life?
“And you know this because you were there. You broke bones in her face. You knocked her teeth out, you broke her nose, her ocular bones were broken. Can you just tell me why?” she added.
Kristi Goncalves Is Constantly Thinking About Bryan Kohberger’s Motive

Kristi’s questions about Kohberger’s motives extend beyond why he chose her daughter and her friends as victims. She also remains troubled by other aspects of his behavior and the events leading up to the murders.
“I am constantly thinking, why? Why our kids? Why that house? When was it the beginning of the end for them – when did he hone in on them and say, ‘This girl or this girl?’ I’m sure he knew their names, whether or not it was one or two of them he was going after,” she said.
Despite Kohberger’s continued silence, even after his sentencing, Kristi remains hopeful that one day he will decide to reveal the answers she has long sought.
“He’s still alive in prison,” Kristi noted with hope. “Maybe one day he’ll choose to speak to a journalist, and will spill the beans. Who knows. Maybe he won’t. Maybe he’ll hold onto it forever. But there’s still a chance.”
Bryan Kohberger’s Victims’ Family Launch New Foundation To ‘Hunt Killers’

During their interview, Steve and Kristi revealed their plans moving forward, stating that they had launched The Kaylee Goncalves Foundation in honor of their daughter.
The foundation, which will operate under the name “Murder Has a Name,” will help fund advanced forensic DNA testing to help apprehend killers and bring closure to families in unsolved cases.
According to the Daily Mail, the organization collaborates with entities like Othram, the forensic laboratory that utilized Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) to link Bryan Kohberger to the DNA found on the Ka-Bar knife sheath at the scene of Kaylee Goncalves’ murder.
Speaking about their new organization, Steve and Kristi stressed that the plan is to find killers who have caused families pain and have yet to be found.
“I want to hunt killers. I want to hunt them down,” Steve told the news outlet. “I want to turn the tables on them. We’re going to hunt those people down. We’re going to find them.”
“It’s time to hunt the killers down and give them a taste of their own medicine,” he added.
Kristi and Steve then shared how proud their daughter will be of their bold new move to hunt killers like Kohberger.
“We’re doing this because Kaylee was a true crime person. She watched true crime. I watched cases with her,” Kristin said.
She continued, “So, I want to say to her, Kaylee, unfortunately, you are one of those cases now, but we’ve made this foundation to help people get answers. And maybe some of those cases that we talked about, this girl, or that girl, maybe we could be a part of helping that family.”
Kristi Goncalves Is Pleased With Bryan Kohberger’s Uncomfortable Prison Life

Kohberger’s transition to life inside the Idaho Maximum Security Institution has been far from smooth.
Multiple reports have claimed that he is constantly being taunted by fellow inmates, with the heckling being done through the prison’s air vents.
Reports have also emerged that Kohberger complained about the quality of the food, delayed access to commissary items, and other aspects of prison life that he finds uncomfortable.
Hearing these reports has brought a measure of satisfaction to Kristi and her husband, Steve, who joined her for the interview, as they continue to grapple with the devastating loss of their daughter.
“We love to hear that,” Kristi said, delighting in Kohberger’s current dilemma. “We were like fantastic. That’s great, he doesn’t like his bananas.”
