As far as Spencer Pratt is concerned, his past shouldn’t be used to judge his present.
The reality TV alum is running for the next mayor of Los Angeles at 42, but some critics are holding on to his past as a celebrity with a lavish appetite.
Spencer Pratt recently shut down these criticisms in a new interview, arguing that he did nothing wrong in his younger years.
Spencer Pratt Refuses To Be Condemned For His Past ‘Rich And Famous’ Ideals

During a recent appearance on the “No Jumper” podcast, Pratt addressed the comments about his past spending habits. “Everything I ever spent money on, they act like I didn’t have it. So yes, I spent all this money,” Pratt began, adding:
“But I was also 22, 23 years old, and I was planning on being Kim Kardashian, rich and famous, so I wasn’t hoarding my money like this was my one run at the game.”
Pratt, per TMZ, acknowledged that his actions at that age weren’t wrong or right, but the fact remains that he spent his money and not the taxpayers’ funds. On that note, he bashed his competitor, Karen Bass, for allegedly using $400 million from taxpayers to house 1,400 people.
The Mayor Hopeful Argues That His Spending Was Never ‘Reckless’

Pratt kept defending his past lavish spending, stressing that the argument of who spends more “reckless” money shouldn’t involve him. “Mine wasn’t reckless. I had great dinners. I treated a lot of friends. Like I was supporting people. I was funding, you know, rappers, MMA fighters,” Pratt claimed.
“The Hills” alum added that he took care of a lot of people, who he believed would happily come to his defense and tell the world what a good friend he was to them. Pratt stressed that if people did not elect him because of his past, it wouldn’t stop him from doing it all again because he helped people in need.
The mayoral hopeful continued that if he lost the election, he would happily go back to selling healing crystals and spending quality time with his family. Pratt also said he would take the loss as God’s plan, reiterating that the only pressure on his shoulders was doing his absolute best.
Spencer Pratt Was Once Called Out For His Lavish Spending

Although Pratt defended his past lavish spending as something he did at a young age, he appears to have forgotten that his spending habits made waves seven years ago. The Daily Mail covered the story, reporting that Pratt was back to his lavish spending ways.
At the time, Pratt was 36 when he got called out by his longtime partner, Heidi Montag, on an episode of “The Hills.” The couple had been reviewing their monthly budget when Montag noticed Pratt had spent over $30,000 on clothes, over $3,000 on wine, and $10,000 on jewelry.
However, Pratt argued that his spending for the month was a significant improvement compared to the past. “I feel like energetically as I spend the money, I’m manifesting more money … which so far is happening every month,” he told Montag, citing his booming crystals business.
Karen Bass Slams Pratt As A ‘Reality TV Star Villain’

Pratt’s recent interview follows Bass’s comments about his mayoral campaign. The outlet caught up with the politician on the eve of Election Day at Pann’s Restaurant and asked for her thoughts about Pratt’s efforts to kick her out of office and become the next mayor.
Bass did not seem fazed by Pratt’s campaign, claiming the mayoral race was a choice between someone with governing experience and someone with reality TV fame. She implied Pratt was someone who had nothing but his experiences as a celebrity, wondering if he ever held a job outside television.
The jabs continued, with Bass labeling Pratt a “reality TV star villain” with zero understanding of how the city government operates. Additionally, Bass seemingly compared Pratt to President Donald Trump, stressing that a celebrity status was not a qualification for public office.
Spencer Pratt’s Campaign Received A Surprise Donation

While critics were concerned about Pratt’s relationship with money, it seemed other powerful figures were not. The Blast recently reported that Pratt’s campaign received a surprise donation from Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin.
Brin reportedly donated $1,800, the maximum amount an individual is permitted to give to a Los Angeles mayoral candidate. When a social media user called out the tech billionaire’s donation as a sign of his right-wing support, Pratt fired back: “It’s called common sense.”
Pratt used his social media platform for more than responding to critics, recently bashing City Councilmember Nithya Raman. Over the weekend, Pratt called out Raman’s attempt to encourage citizens to vote, claiming the only thing worse than “The Hills” was her campaign.
Who will be the next mayor of Los Angeles?
