Matthew Perry‘s assistant Kenneth Iwamasa is not walking away from the consequences of his actions!
The late actor’s staff’s sentence was read to him in court today, and he will be busy being a law-abiding citizen for the next 3 years and a few months after paying some hefty amount in fines.
Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, and authorities later determined that he died from the effects of using Ketamine, allegedly administered to him by his assistant.
Matthew Perry’s Assistant Lands More Than 3 Years In Prison

Iwamasa has now been given a 41-month prison sentence for involvement in the actor’s ketamine-related death. The actor’s former assistant also had to pay combined fines of $10,100 and will be subject to two years of supervised release after his sentence.
He was ordered to hand himself over to authorities by July 17 so he can start serving time in a cell. Iwamasa previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute Ketamine resulting in death.
He was one of five people charged in connection with Perry’s death, and the last to be sentenced. At Wednesday’s hearing on May 27, Iwamasa’s defense argued that he should be sentenced to six months in prison and six months of house arrest.
However, PEOPLE reported that prosecutors sought a harsher sentence, including the judge’s sentence of 41 months, supervised release, and monetary fines.
Kenneth Iwamasa Revealed He Could Not Turn Down His Boss’ Request For Ketamine

While he was waiting for the details of his sentencing, The Blast shared on May 22 that the court may consider going easy on him due to the nature of his relationship with the deceased.
According to Iwamasa, their closeness put him in a tight spot with Perry, where he could not necessarily say no.
He argued that he acted under Perry’s directive as an employee, bound to fulfill his boss’s wishes, rather than independently make decisions. Although he acknowledged that his actions played a primary role in the tragic outcome, he insisted that saying “no” to Perry was not even an option to begin with.
Iwamasa’s attorney emphasized that the employer-employee relationship between him and Perry put his client in a more difficult position to be involved in the conspiracy to distribute drugs compared to an outsider.
The actor’s assistant further argued that prosecutors overlooked the emotional and psychological vulnerability tied to his relationship with Perry.
According to the documents, he believed the government’s argument oversimplified the pressure and circumstances Iwamasa encountered while working closely with the actor during his struggles with addiction.
Matthew Perry’s Mother Insisted His Greedy Doctor Was Complacent In His Addiction Issues

Meanwhile, Iwamasa is not the only person facing consequences in connection with Perry’s death. The actor’s physician, Salvador Plasencia, has already been sentenced to prison for providing Perry with massive quantities of Ketamine.
Reports confirmed that not only did Plasencia supply the drugs, but also taught Iwamasa how to inject the Ketamine into the late actor. For his involvement, the doctor was ultimately sentenced to two-and-a-half years behind bars.
After the sentencing news broke, Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, and mother, Suzanne Morrison, voiced their grief publicly and laid blame squarely at the doctor’s door.
The couple said Plasencia was one of the people most directly responsible for Perry’s death, because he was willing to sacrifice the medical standards for profit.
According to Morrisons, the doctor’s actions were even more disturbing when taking into account the longstanding history of Perry’s addiction.
They said that Plasencia was “clearly aware” that the actor was vulnerable when he continued to supply him with Ketamine at his office, even though he knew the man was under a contract.
Prosecutors Slammed The Assistant With Claims Of Evidence Clean Up

The Blast shared that federal prosecutors insisted Iwamasa was trying to conceal evidence in the Ketamine usage probe that trailed Perry’s death.
Iwamasa reportedly made multiple attempts to cover up the evidence by asking another person to trash Ketamine vials and syringes, which could help unravel the case.
Authorities also alleged that Iwamasa initially misled investigators by concealing the fact that he had administered several ketamine injections to the actor the day he died. He reportedly suggested that the actor must have hidden the ketamine containers himself.
That was not all, Iwamasa was also accused of facilitating the destruction of a ketamine prescription and a handwritten note that may have connected Plasencia to the case as the drug plug. A conversation between Iwamasa and an alleged middleman, Erik Fleming, was also referenced.
In the phone call, the assistant admitted to cleaning up the scene by deleting records, disposing of evidence, and changing the passwords on Perry’s electronic devices.
Matthew Perry’s Mother Tagged Kenneth Iwamasa As Someone Without Conscience

Morrison admitted in court that when Iwamasa came into Perry’s life, she heaved a sigh of relief, believing that they finally had a trusted figure in their son’s life.
The actor’s mom noted that Iwamasa’s primary role was to help Perry keep up with his recovery journey and maintain his sobriety.
She added that the family also assured Iwamasa of an open-door policy to help him achieve his goal with the actor without concerns of losing his job.
Unfortunately, Iwamasa fell short of the huge expectations the family had of him as he repeatedly enabled Perry’s addiction by helping him source for drugs and administering injections.
Morrison added that Iwamasa continued to maintain a facade of concern with the family even after Perry’s death by sending them music, getting involved in burial arrangements, and even requesting to speak during the funeral service.
Morrison acknowledged that she was heartbroken over Iwamasa casually betraying their family’s trust and failing Perry during one of his most vulnerable moments.
Another justice served in Matthew Perry’s case!
