Hayden Panettiere‘s new memoir is out, and it is filled with plenty of shocking secrets!

The actress poured her heart out in the emotional book, revealing the scars from her past, the betrayals, and blatant sexual harassment from men in the entertainment industry.

One of the stories Hayden Panettiere shared detailed what could have been an assault on a yacht full of famous names and faces. The worst part is that someone close to her had a hand in the incident.

Hayden Panettiere Recalls Shocking Betrayal From A Close Confidant

In the chapter titled “Trust,” Panettiere recalled riding on a super yacht and enjoying a trip to the South of France with other celebrities. She was 18 at the time and was traveling with a woman she believed was one of her closest confidantes.

Panettiere detailed having a great time on the yacht, swimming in the Mediterranean, dancing until sunrise, and mingling with famous people. Everything seemed fantastic until towards the end of the trip, when her female confidant approached her during dinner.

Panettiere, per the chapter reviewed by PEOPLE, was asked to meet someone downstairs and followed along without question. But when she reached a private cabin, she was stunned to find a “famous thirtysomething British singer-songwriter” shirtless in bed.

Panettiere noted that her initial thought was whether the man was naked under the covers, before her female companion dropped an even more terrifying bombshell. “I want you to get in bed with him,” the woman allegedly whispered in her ear before leaving the room.

The “Heroes” star confessed that she had initially complied out of shock, noting her body no longer felt like her own at that moment. After years of being “managed” by adults, she had been conditioned to follow orders, but her survival instincts kicked in.

Panettiere immediately stopped the man with a firm refusal, stressing that she never signed up for whatever her female companion had offered. Then, she climbed out of the bed and ran out of the room to her own cabin, heartbroken by the betrayal. In her words:

“I felt like I’d been kicked in the face… She’d confided in me, pampered me, and treated me like her best friend, then turned around and treated me like a call girl.”

The harassment from men in the industry continued, with Panettiere detailing another incident when she was 19. Page Six reported that she had been invited to a party at a friend’s Los Feliz apartment, alongside a small group of men.

Panettiere recalled feeling uncomfortable with the group, who were “gathered together, talking, drinking, and smoking weed.” However, nothing happened until Panettiere was ready to leave the party and was approached by a famous Oscar winner.

The man allegedly wished her a good night while warning her to be careful because someone’s gum had gotten stuck on his pants. He then directed Panettiere to look down, which she did, only to find the “well-respected, award-winning actor’s testicles were hanging out from his unzipped fly.”

Panettiere added that she was “shocked” by the incident, revealing that men in the industry would throw inappropriate comments or peck her on the lips, but nothing that crossed the line. As for why she did not name her alleged harassers, Panettiere wanted no drama.

The actress told Hollywood Reporter that she only wished to share her story and did not want to put herself in a difficult position with some of these men. “It was to protect me and my company from being sued by some very pissed-off famous people,” she said.

Additionally, Panettiere shared that she had been raised and groomed to follow orders “like a little soldier,” with “no” never being an option. Panettiere claimed she eventually realized what was happening to her was wrong when she started self-harming through substance abuse. 

Hayden Panettiere Suffered From Postpartum Depression

Besides facing harassment from men, Panettiere’s journey into motherhood was far from smooth. The Blast covered the story, sharing that Panettiere nearly lost her life while welcoming her daughter Kaya in December 2014.

The entertainer explained that she had a “wonderful pregnancy,” but experienced a challenging birth. The troubles continued, with postpartum depression hitting almost immediately after her daughter was born, leaving Panettiere feeling distraught.

According to Panettiere, she had a wonderful baby girl and the gift of life, yet she could not find a reason to be happy. Fortunately, she overcame that phase of life and now has a great relationship with Kaya despite the distance. Panettiere’s daughter lives in Ukraine with her ex-fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko.
