Aubrey Plaza‘s beau is stepping into his daddy role with full confidence!

The actress’s partner, Christopher Abbott, is receiving all the great wishes as he prepares to welcome his first child with the delectable talent nearly a year after they were first linked together.

Aubrey Plaza and her boyfriend started as co-stars in the second act of the indie film “Black Bear” in 2019 as a married couple.

During his appearance on NBC’s “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle,” Abbott publicly reacted to circulating reports that he is about to become a father, confirming that the reports are true. Abbott came on the show alongside his  “Death of a Salesman” co-star Nathan Lane, and Jenna Bush Hager asked if she could congratulate him.

Abbott replied in the affirmative with a smile, thinking it was about his Tony nomination, but Hager quickly explained that it was about the heartwarming baby news.

After laughing off the comment, Abbott admitted he has plenty to celebrate at the moment, adding, “It’s too much.” Abbott also spoke about becoming a father amid loads of gratitude and pleasant comments about how far they have come.

Last month, The Blast noted that Plaza announced that she is expecting a bun in the oven with Abbott on an episode of the “Smartless” podcast. In her conversation with the hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, Plaza casually chimed in that there is a baby inside of her.

She explained how she discovered her pregnancy to the shocked hosts, recalling that it was during a trip to the vet for her dog’s ultrasound. Plaza decided to shorten the trip by visiting her doctor at the same time and getting an ultrasound, which ended in the grand discovery of her pregnancy.

The actress confessed that she was excited to become a mother and has always been interested in the idea of parenthood. Plaza herself was spotted flaunting her precious bump on the streets of the Big Apple just a day before she cozied up with Abbott at the Broadway revival of “Death of a Salesman.”

Everything Started On The Set Of ‘Black Bear’

As noted by E! Online, after Plaza and Abbott’s collaboration in “Black Bear,” they proceeded to share the stage in the 2023 Off-Broadway production of “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.” The actress described working with Abbott as an incredible experience, stating:

“It’s fun, and it’s also good, and it’s also safe. I like to just throw things out the window, also, and laugh and mess around and not take it so seriously. It’s a hard combo to come by.”

The actor also returned the favor, raving about her and Plaza’s bond, describing each other as two people who are not afraid to be “ugly and weird and strange.”

On how things came to be for them on “Black Bear,” she recalled almost sending Abbott a letter to join the movie, but eventually found out he signed on anyway, something she described as the work of fate and destiny.

Abbott and Plaza eventually made their debut as a couple two days after her pregnancy news was confirmed in April to attend the after-party event for the Broadway opening of Abbott’s film.

The media personality and Michael Cera got together a few years back and were one wild decision away from getting married, but it did not happen.

As shared by The Blast, Plaza noted that after working together on “Scott Pilgrim vs the World,” they embarked on a road trip purely powered by edibles and vibes.

The plan was to say “I Do” in Las Vegas and divorce right on the spot so they could remain in each other’s lives as exes.

However, the actress explained years later that Cera was at the peak of his fame at the time, and when they got in line at the county office, everyone scattered in different directions, forcing them to also run.

As for her baby with Abbott, Plaza is expected to be the latest mother in town this fall, although most of the details of their relationship remain unknown.

The 41-year-old’s pregnancy news came as soothing news to the ears of many of her fans who had watched her go through such a trying past year following the loss of her allegedly estranged husband.

Baena’s death was announced on the 3rd of January 2025, with reports ruling it a suicide, although the director was reported to be undergoing therapy. The late director had also communicated with Plaza the night before his death, and the morning he took his life. 

However, law enforcement reports also revealed that the actress had confirmed her separation from Baena during a session with investigators. They had reportedly been living separately since September 2024, and the actress had relocated to New York City.
