Aubrey Plaza And Michael Cera Felt Being Exes Was A Good Idea

The “White Lotus” actress revealed that after they worked together on the 2010 film “Scott Pilgrim vs the World,” they decided to drive across states in America, feasting on cannabis edibles, all while fine-tuning their plan to get married in Las Vegas.

She declared on the “SmartLess” podcast that they planned to get married and divorce right on the spot so they could remain in each other’s lives, not just as friends, but as ex-wife and ex-husband.

“It was a combination of being too high and paranoid. At that time, he was very, very famous at that time. I feel like we got in line at the county office or something, and then everyone started running, and we ran,” the star explained. Cera reportedly gave a similar account of almost getting married to the actress in 2023, although he skipped the part of being influenced by edibles.

After Plaza’s chapter with Cera closed, she moved on with Jeff Baena in 2011 and locked it down not only in the romantic department, but also in the business aspect of their lives. As reported by US Weekly, the duo worked together on productions like “Life After Beth,” “Joshy,” “Spin Me Round and The Little Hours.”

Baena raved about the actress back in 2022, saying that she is so talented, smart, and really great at producing and writing. He commended his then-lover for wearing so many hats and balancing them with style. Plaza and Baena sealed the deal in 2020 during the pandemic, and she explained to Ellen DeGeneres on her show a year later that they got a little bored one night and decided to head down the altar in their backyard.

Unfortunately, she lost Baena to suicide in January 2025, which her rep described as an unimaginable tragedy, although it was later revealed that they had separated in September 2024. She found love again in the arms of Abbott in late 2025, years after they co-starred in “Black Bear” in 2020 and the off-Broadway play “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea.”
