Hayden Panettiere is sharing more details about her experiences as a first-time mom.
The actress, who details her trauma and addiction struggles in a new memoir, recently sat down for an emotional interview about the book. Part of the discussion centered on her difficult delivery and postpartum depression.
Hayden Panettiere became a mom for the first time in 2014 when she welcomed a daughter named Kaya with her ex-fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko.
Hayden Panettiere Had A Challenging Time Bringing Her Daughter Into The World

Panettiere poured her heart out in a candid interview about her new memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.” She sat down with Gayle King on “CBS Mornings” on Monday, May 18, sharing details about her traumatic birthing experience and more.
According to the “Heroes” actress, she had a “wonderful pregnancy” while gearing up to be a first-time mom with her then-fiancé. But those good times did not last, as bringing her daughter into the world turned out to be more traumatic than she ever expected. In her words:
“I had a really rough birth to the point where I almost didn’t make it through.”
The TV Personality’s Struggles Didn’t End At Her Rough Delivery

After enduring a near-death experience during labor, Panettiere was hit with postpartum depression. She recalled the negative energy hit almost immediately after welcoming Kaya, feeling absolutely miserable despite having her long-awaited bundle of joy in her arms.
“There I am with this beautiful, healthy, beautiful baby girl and this very fortunate life … and I could not for the life of me be happy,” Panettiere recalled. She shared that she had been “so depressed,” with the experience leaving her feeling disconnected from the visions she had of motherhood.
The worst part for Panettiere was the fear that she would end up doing to Kaya what her own mother, Lesley Vogel, had done to her. Fortunately, history did not repeat itself, and Panettiere managed to save her relationship with her daughter despite them living in separate countries.
The Actress’s Daughter Calls Her Britney For A Cute Reason

When asked about her current relationship with Kaya, Panettiere beamed with pride, revealing they had grown close despite the distance. Her daughter lives in Ukraine with her ex, and she enjoys “a great relationship” with her through frequent visits and FaceTime calls.
“She’s now 11 years old, and she’s calling Mommy more and more,” Panettiere proudly declared before recalling a cute interaction with Kaya. She noted the little girl recently called her over FaceTime with a new moniker, saying:
“She goes, ‘Hey Britney.’ It took me a second, and I realized she was talking about ‘Bring It On,’ because her friends are fans of ‘Bring It On.'”
Panettiere starred as Britney Allen in the 2006 movie “Bring It On: All or Nothing,” the third installment of the franchise. She was super excited that Kaya knew the role and felt even more proud that her daughter wanted to flaunt her off to her friends. “I’m cool now!” Panettiere declared.
Hayden Panettiere Made The Difficult Decision To Give Up Custody Of Her Child

Another emotional topic covered in Panettiere’s memoir was the moment she gave up custody of her daughter. The Blast shared that while promoting the book on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” podcast, Panettiere had cleared the air on what happened.
She denied giving up custody of Kaya as a means of abandoning her child, explaining that the decision had been the best choice for both her and the child. Panettiere had to pass full control to her ex amid her battle with substance and alcohol addiction.
Panettiere gave up custody to focus on her rehabilitation, stressing that it was an “incredibly difficult” decision to make. She echoed similar sentiments in a different interview, describing the moment as a “living nightmare,” but the right choice.
The Entertainer Lost A Brand Deal After Sharing Her Postpartum Depression

Panettiere’s recent interview isn’t the first time she has opened up about her postpartum depression, as she did so earlier this month. The Blast reported that she revealed the consequences of sharing her postpartum depression for the first time in a 2015 interview.
According to the actress, she never expected that after the interview, her longtime collaboration with the popular skincare brand Neutrogena would end. Panettiere recalled receiving a call about her contract termination, remembering how shocked she was to be dismissed over something “so human.”
She also delved into the end of her collaboration with Neutrogena in her memoir, with an excerpt describing the incident as a huge blow. Panettiere wrote that she never expected a lack of understanding from the brand after receiving an outpouring of love and support from the public.
