The SKIMS founder has reportedly doled out a chunk of her earnings to secure bail for a former death row inmate who is now set for a retrial amid repeated claims of his innocence.
Kim Kardashian, alongside other prominent figures, pitched their tent behind Richard Glossip last year after the Supreme Court of the United States vacated his conviction.
Kim Kardashian Posts 6-Figure Bail For Former Death Row Prisoner
The reality star has deposited bail for Glossip, who was released from prison as he awaits a retrial over a 1997 murder case. Judge Natalie Mai set the former inmate’s bail at $500,000, which the SKIMS founder posted on Thursday, May 14.
The former inmate was reportedly released from prison in Oklahoma on May 14 after spending 30 years on death row for first-degree murder.
Scott Budnick, a longtime advocate of Glossip’s freedom, happily shared the news in an Instagram post where he tagged the entrepreneur’s social media handle.
The former inmate had on multiple occasions escaped execution over the years after being pushed on the list on nine different dates. He has also been served a last meal on three different occasions.
As noted by Associated Press, Glossip attorney Donald Knight revealed that the inmate was banking on contributions from members of the public to raise the funds.
Richard Glossip’s Release Was Secured On Some Terms And Conditions
The former Oklahoma death row prisoner was sentenced to death over the 1997 killing in Oklahoma City of his former boss, Barry Van Treese, who also owned a motel. Treese was beaten with a baseball bat in an alleged murder for -hire plot.
Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the prosecutors’ decision to allow a key witness to give testimony they knew to be untrue was a direct violation of Glossip’s constitutional right to get a fair trial.
The inmate was granted release on Thursday on the condition that he must agree to wear an electronic monitoring device. He was also instructed not to travel outside of Oklahoma, nor attempt to establish any contact with witnesses in the case, nor must he consume alcohol.
Glossip’s attorney emphasized that his client now has the opportunity to experience freedom. At the same time, his defense team continues to pursue justice on his behalf against the misconduct perpetrated by state prosecutors.

By October 2019, Stewart’s life sentence from the 1990s for the murder of an unarmed man was suspended, with Kim getting credit for lending her voice and influence. The case was slated to be featured in “Kim Kardashian West: The Justice Project.”
Jeffrey Stringer became the first beneficiary of the First Step Act, a program which Kardashian West advocated for and Trump signed into law in 2019. Stringer was released the same year for showcasing good behavior when he was locked up for more than two decades for manufacturing and intending to distribute cocaine.

The reality star also helped another former inmate, Matthew Charles, settle into his new home when he was released in December 2019 under the First Step Act.
As stated by WCNC, the released inmate revealed that he could not find permanent housing since his release, largely due to his criminal history.
Kim had used her good name to contact landlords in the Nashville area who were willing to let Charles live in their apartment with a promise to pay his rent in advance.
Charles’ case received national attention when he was ordered back to prison in 2018, two years after his sentence was ruled unfair by the court.
As soon as the housing issues were sorted out, Stewart posted a picture of a key to his new home, filled with gratitude to Kim and affirming that his days are happier and brighter because he has a roof over his head.

Kim continued in a Vogue interview that she has chosen to take the non-traditional route to secure her law degree by beginning a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco, towards taking the bar in 2022.
