Jimmy Kimmel has revealed the brief text he sent to his late-night peers after facing heat from the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, over a joke he made.
The comedian’s joke about Melania being an “expectant” widow seemed ill-timed as it came shortly before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting incident.
This swiftly led to backlash from The Trumps, with Melania herself directly calling for ABC to “take a stand” and fire Jimmy Kimmel.
What Jimmy Kimmel Texted His Late-Night Peers After Melania Trump’s Scathing Remarks

Kimmel recently made a joint appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” alongside Seth Meyers, John Oliver, and Jimmy Fallon, to mark Colbert’s final week on his show.
During the episode, Colbert brought up President Trump’s feud with most of the late-night hosts and how he tends to react to jokes they make about him and his administration.
He asked if they ever expected to be “doing a job that the president of the United States would have strong feelings about.”
This prompted Kimmel to say, “You know what’s even weirder? Doing a job that his wife has strong feelings about. That’s where it crosses over.”
Kimmel was referencing Melania’s surprising call for ABC to axe his show after he jokingly called her an “expectant widow” a few days before the WHCD shooting incident.
The hosts joked about the Melania moment during their conversation, with Myers saying, “Most of us have avoided that part.”
Oliver then described how “amazing” it was to get a two-word text message from Kimmel that simply read, “Oh boy,” alongside a photo of “Melania mad at him.”
“What a way to start the day,” Oliver jokingly added, per People Magazine.
The Comedian Revealed The ‘Saddest Part’ About Receiving Backlash From The White House

During the gathering of the talk show hosts, Colbert asked Kimmel how he feels when he sees the “attention” he gets from the White House over his joke, prompting the comedian to reveal the “saddest part” of the entire situation.
Kimmel noted that moments like these often feel disproportionate to his day-to-day life, as his late-night peers are usually the only people he knows who show any “care” when such controversies surface before his loved ones even get wind of it.
“I realize in those moments that the only four people who care are sitting right here,” he said. “It takes 12 hours for the rest of the people in my life to even figure out that anything’s going on.”
“Two hours after that, a guy I used to work with sent me a text. He’s like, ‘Hey, do you know a real estate lawyer?'” Kimmel added, joking about the Melania incident.
Melania Trump Called On ABC To Fire Jimmy Kimmel

Kimmel’s recent comments link back to a scathing social media post from the first lady criticizing a joke he made about her and her husband, President Trump, two days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
On April 23, the comedian set up a parody of the event on his show and joked that Melania had “a glow like an expectant widow.”
Then, on April 25, there was a shooting at the venue hosting the event involving a single gunman who was allegedly targeting the president and members of his administration.
This caused Melania and her husband to furiously call on ABC to fire Kimmel, along with several other MAGA supporters on social media who raged about the comedian’s joke.
Melania said in part at the time, “It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community[?].”
The Comedian Told Melania Trump To ‘Have A Conversation’ With Her Husband About Rejecting Violent Rhetoric

Unlike Melania’s request from ABC to “take a stand,” Trump made a more direct post demanding that Kimmel be fired.
“When is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “People are angry. It better be soon!!!”
Despite this backlash from Melania, the president, and multiple top MAGA influencers, Kimmel remained unfazed and even hit back at the first lady for calling for him to get fired.
He said, “…I agree that hateful and violent rhetoric is something we should reject. I do. And I think a great place to start to dial that back would be to have a conversation with your husband about it.”
Jimmy Kimmel’s Show Was Previously Suspended Over Comments He Made Related To The Late Charlie Kirk

Kimmel’s recent beef with Melania comes months after his show got suspended due to comments he made about MAGA supporters and how they were reacting to the death of right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk.
Last September, after the shocking assassination of the activist, Kimmel criticized Republicans for trying to paint the alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, as a member of every other political group but theirs, leading to swift backlash.
At the time, the comedian was suspended by ABC, with major affiliates like Sinclair refusing to air episodes of his show unless he apologized for his remarks and donated to Kirk’s family and organization, Turning Point USA.
Luckily for Kimmel, his suspension was lifted within days, and his show was back on air. While addressing the controversy, the comedian clarified that it was never his “intention to make light of the murder” of Kirk.
“Nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions,” he added at the time.
