Diane Kruger is once again getting people talking over her fashion choices, but this time, social media users are seriously divided. The actress stepped out alongside longtime partner Norman Reedus for the 2026 New York City Ballet Spring Gala at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City on May 7, instantly turning heads with a daring, high-fashion ensemble. While Norman Reedus kept things classic in an all-black tailored suit and tie combination, Kruger opted for a much more experimental look.

The actress wore a pale satin bralette-style top featuring sparkling embellishments and oversized ribbon straps, pairing it with a dramatic feathered skirt in soft blush, lavender, and icy blue tones. She completed the look with pointed ivory heels and Old Hollywood-inspired waves. But while some fashion fans appreciated the risk-taking moment, others were far less impressed.

Social media reactions quickly poured in after photos from the gala surfaced online, with several critics taking aim at the revealing top. “Isn’t she a bit old for the bralette look?” one commenter asked bluntly. “She used to be so stylish. What has happened?” another wrote.

Others piled on with comments like, “What is she wearing?!” and “That would be a ‘no.’” while another added, “She used to dress well….” But not everyone hated the ensemble. Some fans defended Kruger and praised her confidence, with one person writing, “Awful outfit, but Diane is a beauty.”

The appearance comes as Kruger and Reedus continue to remain one of Hollywood’s more low-key couples. The pair, who share a daughter together, have largely kept their relationship private despite regularly stepping out for fashion events, film premieres, and major industry galas.

“I didn’t know him before the film. We share a lot of intimate scenes. I was really nervous about meeting him and not being able to have a drink with him, or talk with him [before filming],” Kruger previously said, referring to their meeting on the set of their 2015 film “Sky.”

She also revealed that she was “pleasantly surprised” by his demeanor. “He’s so relaxed. He’s really easygoing, very gentle,” she added.

Away from the red carpet, Kruger has also been candid about her personal life, especially when it comes to becoming a mother later in life. During an interview with Defined Magazine, the actress opened up about having her daughter in her 40s and admitted that the experience was far more emotionally challenging than she expected. “I live it every day. We all judge ourselves and others, even when we don’t mean to,” she said while discussing the pressure women often place on themselves and each other.

Kruger went on to describe motherhood as “isolating,” explaining how important support from other moms became during the early years. “Motherhood can be isolating, and without other mothers going through the same thing, I don’t know how I’d have made it through the first two years,” she shared. “It’s such a learning curve.”

Despite keeping much of their relationship private, Norman Reedus previously shared sweet details about his proposal to Diane Kruger, and it involved a little help from their daughter. Back in 2021, Reedus popped the question following a motorcycle trip to Savannah, Georgia. During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the actor revealed that his original proposal plan nearly got ruined by bad weather.

He had hoped to ask Kruger outdoors, but a thunderstorm rolled in and forced him to rethink everything at the last minute. The following morning, Reedus hid the estimated $500,000 eight-carat engagement ring inside one of his boots and casually asked Kruger to grab it for him while their daughter, Nova, sat on his lap.

“I’m like, ‘I want to look at the boot,’ because I had it shoved in the boot,” Reedus recalled. “Then I proposed. She started crying, then Nova started crying. Everybody’s crying. It was Waterworks City, and then Nova going, ‘Why are we crying?!’ And then Diane’s going, ‘It’s happy tears.’ She’s like, ‘Yes, it’s happy tears!’”
